HECK YES! Health care is not a right. What happened to personal responsibility? I pay for my own health care. Why should I have to pay for yours? Most of the 47 million uninsured are either illegal or they CHOOSE not to get coverage. Treatment is never denied! If you think health care is expensive no, just wait until it's "free."

Because politicians know that people want free handouts and so politicians give it to them in the hopes of being re-elected. They only care about getting re-elected and so are happy to trade long term prosperity for failed economic, socialistic policies.

Because most of us actually care about other people. Not My Fault, what do you think you do paying health insurance premiums? The money you pay that does not go to the CEO and shareholders of the companies goes to pay for the care of everyone insured by them. I don't think you use all of the money you pay every year. Single payer simply put is a large scale group plan. It will cost us a little more in taxes, but it will be less than what you pay in premiums every month. Unless you don't want to save money and get better care that can't deny you.

We have too many people now. We need a system which will encourage people to work, such as going hungry. The death penalty (quickly) for those who commit heinous crimes, and so on. If you are going to do drugs and rob or steal to support your habit, then the government should not make any effort to save your sorry hide after you destroy your kidneys.

I believe that helping a person who is down is good. Helping them forever is stupid. Supporting them because they are lazy is insane. Rewarding people for doing nothing to better themselves is the Democratic way.

The funny thing is that you and I are ALREADY paying for other peoples health care, whether we have private insurance policies or are just taxpayers. The question is would you really rather pay your share of a chest cold that could be treated at a public clinic with a $24 prescription and three days bed rest, or your share of the same chest cold after it has turned to pneumonia and wound up in the ER with a $27,000 price tag? You and I pay for it either way. I'd rather pay my share of the treatment at the clinic.

I agree. I say get rid of it all. No welfare, no food stamps, no medical/medicaid...just get rid of it all. If that happens (and lets face it...unless they take away voting rights for those collecting welfare, and with as many people collecting it, it will never happen,) then this country will fix it's self. Take away welfare, free medical insurance, and food stamps, what happens? No more illegals and anchor babies...that will be the first to go, BUT it will also cut down on unplanned pregnancy. I know people who had child after child because their welfare checks increased with every one...but if you take it away, they would be forced to shut off the TV, hop off the couch, and find a job. But as long as the government passes out "free," there will be those with their hands out to take full advantage of it. To prove that I am not completely heartless, I do believe would should have something....something VERY strict in place for emergency cases. Such as, a high risk pregnancy who was put on bed rest for the remainder of her pregnancy. Give her aid for up to and only 6 months after birth, or until she goes back to work. I also believe in government ASSISTED (not completely paid for) child care. Sitters can cost up to an entire paycheck in a weeks time...but they have to make a living too.

It's the three class system we have. First, there's the productive class, those that work and are responsible for themselves. Next, you have the robber class, better known as politicians. They're the ones that rob and ridicule the productive class. Then there's the parasitic class, that supports the robber class, that in turn cater to the parasitic class in return for votes. For the robber and parasitic classes, this takes not balls, but audacity, which either seem to have in abundance.

Last fall, the federal government gave away $8.5 TRILLION* in corporate welfare checks. Social welfare programs are a drop in the bucket compared to the other giveaways taxpayers willingly allow, such as: a) Corporate welfare in the form of special tax deductions, favored tax legislation, tax abatement programs, government grants and low-cost government loans; b) Social Security checks that go to citizens who don't need the money. Social Security has become America's most blatant and abused entitlement. It was intended to help those senior citizens who were disadvantaged, poor, elderly, underprivileged, homeless or hungry. Instead, everybody thinks they're 'entitled' to a Social Security check because they "paid into it"; c) How about property tax exemptions, Earned Income Credit, mortgage exemptions, and countless other programs virtually given to almost all American citizens. There are all kinds of giveaways that taxpayers gluttonously take from Government. Yet, they shrill when Government tries to help a poor single mother, a chronically-ill alcoholic, a drug abuser, or a destitute family that needs a place to live. Why can't America have the balls to take all these 'freebies' away from those citizens who think they're 'entitled' to such largess, but don't want Government to help those who are sick, disadvantaged, unemployed, under-educated, poor, elderly, disabled or addicted? Could it be because we think we're 'better' than those low lifes? Alexander Tyler once said: "A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover they can vote themselves largess from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, followed by a dictatorship." Swindling mortgage lenders, arrogant investment brokers, lazy CEOs, wealthy industrialists, incompetent bankers, greedy hedge fund speculators, crooked politicians, sleazy insurance companies, ultra-rich pharmaceutical firms, 'big oil' and other for-profit corporations don't deserve - and shouldn't receive - government aid. Government (i.e., 'we the people') should show compassion, support and financial assistance to those who are disadvantaged, elderly, hopeless, uninsured, unemployed, underprivileged, poor, sick, homeless or hungry. That is what a 'society' is supposed to do for its less fortunate members. -RKO-

Well, it must be nice to be a millionaire. You must be or you wouldn't have asked that question. Me, I'm a state employee, getting by, like most of America. What you describe is close to what we have. Pure Capitalism is just as evil as Pure Communism. We have socialism in this country now. Most of the "progressive" countries in the world have some form of Socialism. I am currently paying 25% of my net income for insurance, and my copays and deductibles grow every year. I don't think that we can afford to continue down this road. I know I can't.

Do you really believe everyone in America can't afford health care because they are to lazy to work? Do you really believe insurance companies would provide health care to the elderly, disabled or those with life threatening illnesses that will need long term treatment? Do you really believe someone with a broken back should be out there throwing tire irons around, or that grandma should be forced to work as a stock person in the local grocery store until the day she dies while her arthritis is acting up? The truth is I'd be surprised if 25% of the population would be able to sustain the costs of health care in America if they got rid of medicaid and medicare. There are a lot of good and justifiable reasons why universal health care should be passed, and if it weren't for the fact that we can't trust our own government I'd support it, but the truth is our government thinks the same way you do, and this would only afford them the opportunity to snuff people out and rob the American people blind, that is why I'm against it. Stop blaming the poor and begin realizing that our own government mismanaged these funds and actually stole the majority of the money that was paid into ss for these purposes. ;-)

i agree! if you can't feed 'em don't breed ''em! i'm sick & tired of grown, able adults not working, having kids at will, and the working people supporting them. we pay for their food, housing, medical, medicine, cigarettes, transportation. etc. how can a man & woman raise 2-3 kids and they NEVER work. they are both stay at home parents? i see plenty of them. i'm sick of it. [we have a kid that come to the clinic with asthma. both of his parents are 'stay at home parents'....both smoke 3 packs a day. the child is being suffocated in the house with those parents & HOW do they get the cigs??? they don't work EVER???] i would like to see all entitlement programs end. everyone except the very aged & very handicapped should have to care for themselves
