What do you mean by "health food"? Are you looking for something different from fresh vegetables, fruit, meat, poultry seafood, nuts, and whole grains? What sort of recipes are you having trouble finding? My mother raised me on "health food". We ate all kinds of disgusting things that supposedly had magical healthful properties. I never eat anything but real food now.

I'm 2 months pregnant and over weight. what kind of health food should I eat

I'm 2 months pregnant and over weight. what kind of health food should I eat?
I heard that rew veggies have a lot of fiber and that you digest fat easier. Could this help me not gain too much weight? What else should I eat? And is it possible to burn fat while pregnant?

Just eat a healthy balanced diet. You don't want to lose an excessive amount of weight while pregnant. I would wait on dieting until after the baby is born. Plenty of fruits and veggies, and basic foods that are better for you would be great. Get a balanced nutritious diet for both yours and the babies sake. Good luck!!
2 :
keep your diet at 45-50 g of carbs per serving. watch your sugar intake like snaking on candy, chips, ice cream. keep on your protein.if you cant eat meat there is other ways to get your protien. You also need to make sure you eat breakfast lunch and dinner. dont skip meals, that is the worst thing you can do. if you follow this you keep your chances down for getting diabetes. Good luck and take care! remember I said your carb and sugar intake is the only ones you need to worry about! and remember you can not eat like the little girls on here! even though they might think other wise! Also remember alot of your responses on here is going to be from moms that have 1-2-3 kids and just feel that they know it all. but in all reality we are all different! Message me if you have any questions!!
3 :
Now is not the time to worry about your weight. Your pregnant and need an extra 300-500 calories a day for your baby. Eat healthy foods, but don't try to diet or to lose weight. You also shouldn't start exercising now if you haven't been before unless you get your doctors ok and let them know exactly what you plan on doing.
4 :
You should not aim to lose any weight while pregnant, although keeping your gain modest is fine. Fruits and vegetables should be a mainstay of any healthy diet. Fats are also essential while you are pregnant, so do not attempt an extremely low fat diet. Besides fruits and vegetables, try to incorporate whole grain foods (wheat bread, brown rice, etc.) There are LOTS of resources online about healthy pregnancy diets that are more detailed. Also, take your prenatal vitamin every day! Congratulations.
5 :
well if youre overweight just drink lots of water even if you weretn you still should esp when pregnant and eat a lot of fruit and vegetables try to avoid sweets and sodas and sugary juices have them sparingly same with fried foods and fast foods if you must get fast food try to order a small meal instead and drink 2 percent milk instead of whole milk and my sister in law who's 7 months pregnant and has had diabetes since she was a kid is obese and was advised to not gain more than 15 lbs so she has been eating really healthy since she first found out she was pregnant at 6 wks and also walks a mile a day and guess what shes only gained 10 lbs and her baby's due april 30th so exercising regularly will also help walking is great and safe exercise when youre pregnant but dont lift weights or run or other things if you didnt do that before you were pregnant
6 :
Any raw fruits and vegetables are great for you. Not just when your pregnant but after you have the baby continue eating them, as you will need energy. Also, 100% fruit juice in limited quantities and LOTS of water. As for burning fat while your pregnant...I only gained 5 pounds with my second child. But I was also never hungry so my body had no choice but to use some of my fat stores as fuel. Either way, it was unhealthy. Just try to eat smaller frequent meals through out your day and eat the fruits, vegetables, lean meats, salads, lots of water and a little fruit juice or V8 juice if you like it. Eating this way will help you to maintain a healthy weight gain and also help you loose the weight faster after the baby arrives. Try to stay active too. Walking has so many benefits for pregnant moms. It keeps your vascular system in shape, helps promote the healthy weight gain and even helps make labor and delivery easier. Good luck and congrats!
7 :
Just eat healthy. Don't worry so much about your weight problem right now..just think of things that are good to put into your body for the baby. You can always loose weight later. You only have 9 months to give your baby what it needs while it is inside you

Scientific literature that examines the health benefits of organic food

Scientific literature that examines the health benefits of organic food?
Can someone please find me scientific literature that specifically examines the health benefits of organic food? I can't find any specific studies or articles that have graphs, data tables, etc. I can find some articles that talk about organic food in general, but not the lack of pesticides, increased nutriional value, etc.
Agriculture - 5 Answers

1 :
Part of the problem that you'll have trouble finding such literature is that it's already known that in most realistic cases there is no significant difference in many areas when it comes to safety of food content. Organic often is the same as conventional food in nutritional content, not higher. In other cases it's actually lower due to higher stress from insects and weeds. Those aspects are variable depending on what crops and practices you are looking at, so citing a few sources like the person below does not equate organic always being more nutritional if you're interpreting the findings incorrectly by trying to extrapolate more than the data was intended for. You need to actually go in and look at specifically what they were studying and what methods were used, otherwise you're just cherry picking. If you start comparing specific practices then you can start making definite comparisons, but simply saying organic vs. conventional is much too broad. Another thing to keep in mind is that the nutrients from organic foods are also identical to conventional. Vitamin C is Vitamin C regardless of where you get it from It is very rare that there is ever a difference between synthetic and naturally produced nutrients. The rare exceptions include folate for the synthetic version is actually easily for us to digest, while the natural version of Vitamin E is easier to absorb. Otherwise most are just plain identical. Pesticides are still used in organic operations, just ones that are already produced by other organisms, yet they aren't necessarily safer for us. Not to mention that pesticide use can have literally no bearing on safety at all with some crops, while others do have more problems with residue such as lettuce and spinach. There's a lot of misconceptions people believe when it comes to organic, so first you need to be careful about what you're looking for and the assumptions you are making already. That often leads to a skewed view of how you look at the data. That's basically why I felt the need for presenting those warnings earlier. The main thing is to look at a case by case basis, not just lumping everything organic as a whole. Most of what I know is from nutrition classes and doing research and work in organic fields (unfortunately the research wasn't directly looking at what you're interested in). Generally scientific literature will be scattered and difficult to find in one place, but I would suggest looking in nutritional journals pertaining to questions on food content, or broaden your search to look at things like worker safety. I'm not familiar with journals pertaining to research specifically on organic farming and nutrition, but browse some databases, you might be able to find one. Good luck.
2 :
There is a large body of scientific studies that show that organic food has higher nutritional levels (the first answerer is totally wrong). Comparative studies have been undertaken on a wide range of organic and non-organic food types (mainly fruit, vegetables and milk) and higher nutritional levels have been found in the organic food in most cases (more minerals, vitamins and antioxidants). Here are four reviews of the literature, all of which found higher levels: 1. Worthington V. Nutritional quality of organic versus conventional fruits, vegetables, and grains, Journal of Complimentary Medicine 2001; 7 No. 2: 161–173. This found that found that organic crops had significantly higher levels of all 21 nutrients analysed compared to non-organic produce, including statistically significant higher levels of iron (21% more), magnesium (29% more) and phosphorus (14% more). See link. 2. Review of the scientific literature compiled for the national French food agency AFSSA, by the University of Aix-Marseille. This concluded that organic crops contain more dry matter (are more nutrient dense), more minerals (such as iron and magnesium),and more antioxidants. Published in 2009 in the journal Agronomy for Sustainable Development - see link. 3. Soil Association (2001) "Organic Farming, food quality and human health: a review of the evidence". This found that organic foods have higher nutritional levels on average than non-organic foods (with about half finding higher levels and about half finding little difference). See link. 4. Food Standards Agency, 2009. In this UK review, in almost all of the comparative studies the organic foods had higher beneficial nutrients, including in the majority of the studies where the difference was statistically significant. (Note: the FSA was established by the UK Government to reassure the public over the quality of normal non-organic food and it has consistently declined to acknowledge the benefits of organic food in public. In this review, the FSA - scandulously - put this essential finding in Appendix 12 and dismissed it as ‘not important’ in the main text of their report! So, it was not reported to the public. Nevertheless, the result was consistent with the other reviews in generally finding higher nutrient levels in organic food). Hope this helps. Edit: in response to another answerer, the nutritional differences are NOT explained by differences in variety and environmental differences. These are basic issues that the recent scientific reviewers address. For instance, if you check the Soil Association review, you will see that one of the criteria was that the variety and environment (location, soil type etc.) were controlled; studies that did not respect this were excluded. ie. when these factors are controlled, the scientific evidence shows that organic food has higher nutritional levels. This should be no surprise: higher soil organic matter levels, means higher soil microbial activity, means better soil mineral supplies. Inorganic fertiliser-based systems only supply NPK fertiliser to the soil and do not maintain levels of the other soil nutrients.
3 :
organic is a process there is no difference in nutrition value between organically grown food and nonorganic. If I take a seed, lets say a black diamond variety open pollinated watermelon and apply organic methods to one plant and nonorganic methods to another then you will see no nutritional value difference. The reason why nutrition claims are made to be higher with organic produce compared to nonorganic is because they are comparing two different varieties and two different environments of the plant raising. Lets say hydroponic vs black dirt or picked green and shipped vs picked ripe and locally grown/delivered. http://www.ers.usda.gov/Briefing/Organic/

Green tea and acai berry. Both are excellent metabolism boosters.
2 :
Green tea
3 :
Chilli, ginseng, ginger. They all increase metabolism.
4 :
I wouldn't take any drugs or herbs that destroy your heart.Green or black tea with a teaspoon of coconut oil and Stevia or honey(well Stevia doesn't help it's just better than sugar or fake sugar)can curb your appetite and give you energy.Coconut oil has been proven to help with weight loss you can use it in cooking too.Chili ginseng and ginger are good too.But obviously the key is to eat less than you burn off in excersize.See a dietitian, you can get a trial at Ballys or some other gym and you should get to see a dietitian, tell him what your doing and take notes. Then run away before they try to get you in a contract.
5 :
There are tons of things out there, but bottom line is none are really that effective, and some are downright dangerous. Green tea is said to boost metabolism, but it doesn't do so enough that you can eat what you want and not exercise. If you do eat right and exercise, you don't need to waste money on gimmicks that do little for you but make the companies that produce them richer. If you want to lose weight the key is to eat right and exercise regularly. You don't need to waste money on products with questionable results and side effects, and that make you sick if you eat too much of the wrong thing (like alli does). I've done tons of research on various products myself, and although you can find sites with people that claim they've had miracle results, there's just no basis for them and scrutiny of the products shows there aren't enough ingredients in most of them, to cause weight loss (even if they contain ingredients known to promote weight loss). Buy nothing until you do your own research on whatever you are considering...and do the research on independent websites, not ones that are also trying to sell you the product. I've decided the best way is just to watch what I put in my mouth. I can't justify throwing money at companies for unverified products. I spend my money on workout programs and equipment that I KNOW can work if I apply myself. ☺

Neither. I go to a grocery store.
2 :
7-11 is a convenience store--the concept of a quick stop for a snack is a toss up between the junk foods or the healthier stuff from a health food store.... it is just as easy to eat bad as it is to eat good. I never found anything but sugared up stuff and sandwiches pre-made by God knows who at 7-11.
3 :
I live in Alabama and as far as I can tell there isn't a health food store here...but, then again I haven't seen a 7-11 either

Ok, so most people know that food that is healthier for you is usually more expensive. Kind of a given. So lets rant about it. Here I am in Spokane, not the hippest of cities, searching for some sort of health food grocery store. Bless the Farmers Market here, absolutly fabulous and a Godsend. Yet with this cooler weather creeping in, so in creeps what I like to call my ”winter produce panic”. I am dreading day the Farmer’s market ends at the end of the month when I will be forced to buy over-priced and poorer quality produce from.. Gasp!- the grocery store. Hence my recent quest to find the one place in this city that boasts organic produce. An aside here, I must give Kudos to Safeway stores (also owns Dominicks for you midwesterners and I’m sure there’s an equivolent all over the US) are now offering a new organic line “O”. The price is equal and sometimes less than conventional foods. I’m pretty happy about that. Upon my research I discovered that this store chain has made a promise that by 2008 they will have an organic equivolent for every item sold in their store at a reasonable price. Hooray!! Thanks guys!! A whole other rant would be “is it really organic?” but at least they’re trying and could possibly force other marketers to follow suit. Now back to the story.. It took me 45 minutes to get to this store so there’s a few bucks in gas. Yes, the store was lovely. I get a shiver of exstacy when I am surrounded by happy produce, a grand variety of grains in bulk, wonderful smelling organic body products and of course some free trade coffee and tons of wine Yes, I know its sick but I can’t help myself. To my sadness, it was outrageously expensive. I mean, I’m surprsied they didn’t charge admission just to look at the stuff. Now, one reason for this is that it’s the only store of its kind here (and its downtown) so they can take that “organic markup” and run with it. Nobody would be the wiser. Except for me of course! I can tell you who charges what for foods at every store in every place I have ever lived. Not just because I too am on a budget but because I feel it is my responsibility as nutritionist to be able to tell my clients where to get the foods I am suggesting they eat and how much it will cost them. I can tell you how much Nancy’s organic yogurt costs at 5 different stores in 5 different cities. That being said, this place here in Spokane tops the prices at Whole Foods, if you can believe that. The point that sometimes I cannot afford to eat what I KNOW is best for me. Now that is just a crying shame. Literally. I saw a woman while leaving the store with an entire trunk full of grocery bags. This had to cost her between $200-$300, if not more. No exaggeration. I then look down at my 3 little bags that cost me $60 and begin to tear up. I’m sure at this point I don’t need to mention that my money was spent wisely. I really only bought the things I couldn’t get anywhere else in town or it was actually one of the few things that was cheaper at this store. Which brings me to the rant . This gap in prices of “fast food” to “health food” is, in my opinion, a representation of the furthering gap between the have and have nots. Unfortunately what this spells out to really is the gap between the sick and healthy. Could it be a conspiracy? I think so sometimes. All my Chicago born friends can concur that you won’t see a Whole Foods in the ghetto. Heck, there isn’t even a grocery store! Yet, in my experince working with indigent populations, they probably need it more than those Lincoln Parkers. Especially to be able to have it close proximity. So what, is it Darwins survival of the fittest? I think that could be it too, as harsh as it may sound. The food provided by government assistance programs is shameful. Not to mention that everyone in the medical field KNOWS that processed foods WILL kill you. We know it!! And not a quick death either. A slow, painful, debilitating, and COSTLY death. Thus the medical field can continue to keep their mouths shut and look the other way while their pocket books get fatter with one hand scratching the pharmeceutical companies backs and the other performing unnecessary surgeries. I mean, there are TONS of Americans who don’t even know how to eat well and frankly are often too broke to care. I saw chicken drumsticks and thighs on sale the other day for 19 cents a pound!! Can you believe that? They were in HUGE containers. Now, throw that in some grease and you’re good to go. Turn right down the isle past the chicken and you see in the “health food” section of the store a tiny package of organic, free range ground beef; I’m not kidding you 2-3 servings at best, and it costs a whopping $5.99 for that package. Seems like a no brainer. How about the apples for 89 cents a pound? You can bet people are stockin up on that antibiotic, hormone, filler filled, chicken which also happens to be the fattest (in fat content) part of the chicken. Yummm. Lets just say you happen to ask the woman with 3 kids in tow (ok, I did because I clearly have a problem) how she feels about that chicken. “Great!” She exclaims. “I’ll be able to eat this chicken for a few days. My family loves it.” Well, “how do you serve it?’ I ask. “Fried”, she responds as if it was a stupid question. “What do you serve with it?” I ask again. “Oh, probably some biscuits”. Mmm. “So, do you eat any vegetables?” “Sometimes some canned corn or green beans. My kids don’t really eat vegetables and my husband certainly doesn’t like them”. There you have it folks. This woman, from my clinical diagnostic skills, based on appearance is overweight and so are her children. Not the worst I’ve seen but ANY child that’s overweight is one too many in my book. Here’s the crazy thing- even if I took that woman in my car to the health food store in town, gave her $200 and told her to shop, I would bet my money double or nothing that she wouldn’t know what to buy and would probably come back with the same stuff she buys at home. Only this time it would be the organic version of cheese puffs, cookies, ice cream, and frozen meals. In the past recent months, my boyfriend and I have had $50/week to spend on food. For some that is a lot, for others it is not. This has been quite a challenge to be able to eat well on a tight budget. I somehow manage to pull it off but I have had many, many years of nutrition education. For all you sharp readers, my $60 spent at that highway robbery speicality store was put on my credit card that I will be paying 22% interest for over the next 5 years. Is it worth it to me? Yes, it is. Only because I have some food allergies and restrictions that when not followed leave me feeling miserable. BUT, in the past few months I have also eaten things I am embarassed to admit because we didn’t have the money to buy anything else. Sometimes it comes down to the pain of hunger vs. the pain of trying to digest foods of unknown origin. Tough call. My boyfriend tries to ease my worry by saying “now you can help your clients better by saying you’ve eaten at Taco Time and can tell them what is healthier to order from the menu”. The response to that is I will never help someone choose “healthier” fast foods because to me that is an oxymoron. I will teach them how to cook cheap meals. That’s it. For now, I am going to scrape the change out of the bottom of my purse and from underneath the couch cushions to go buy myself an apple…..
8 :
because 1) zoning 2) health food stores sell expensive products, and uhhhh, if you have to live in the ghetto, it's likely you ca't afford organic food. I'd settle for a decent grocery store with fresh produce in teh ghetto
9 :
ok so the ghetto is not made up of nice neighborhoods so of course no one is going to open a health food store in a place like that. they would have no business!

Would being "regular" help you feel better about things if you were living there?

Health food stores are expensive , duh

Lol, have you talked to people in the ghetto? They will laugh at the mention of a health food store! Oh...and "lancaster", how the HELL did you type all that so fast???

Hello! Its the ghetto. The only health drink that sells contains alcohol.
15 :
supply rises to meet the demand. high demand for alcohol. low to no demand for 'health' food.

A 50 oz is cheaper then vitamin c pills. Plus ghetto people need ans escape from reality that slimfast just cant provide.

what getto???.... where??? health food stores only whant to appeal to healthy looking people with money and no guns in their pockets.....and they dont take food stamps
18 :
Because all the money to be made is in peoples misery.
19 :
Go figure. What is more odd - those liquor stores aren't owned by anyone who lives in the community nor do the owners give back to the community. And, I don't mean giving people "credit" while they shop there or making up prices for items when people shop there... Do the research - it is pathetic. I don't shop at any "ghetto" store, nor do I care to, but, I do know that good people do live in "ghettos

Should fast food be considered a health hazzard

Should fast food be considered a health hazzard?
I am doing a debate on this topic in speech class and I have to argue that fast food is a health hazzard. I do agree that fast food is a health hazzard, but I'm having toruble narrowing my arguments down to 5 strong points. So can you please provide 5 good reasons why fast food should be considered a health hazzard

2 :
you'll live longer, you'll feel better while your alive, you will have more positive energy mentally, it will give you a chance to actually go to dinner and enjoy eating slowly, and you won't have indigestion
3 :
Fast food should be considered a health hazard. Its just like candy you get addicted to it then you become unhealthy.
4 :
i guess it can be if u eat too much of it, but it is also a quicker way like if your in a hurry 2 get somewhere it helps!
5 :
Fast food is a hazard. They cause diabetes, heart disease, thyroid problems, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and the preservatives can cause many more unspeakable diseases. But you can find alternatives. Follow this rule Meats chicken, fish, turkey Salads.....fat free condiments Veggies and Fruits Oatmeal and whole wheat products Eating these on a regular basis is what I do. My motto is if it can't fly, swim or grow don't eat it. It is a change in lifestyle not a diet.
6 :
fatty.. not nutritious.. fried
7 :
Fast food is just a part of the problem with the hazzards that face people daily. People use to grow thier own food in past generations, and died at the age of 45! People use to get up to change the channel on the TV, and they died at the age of 80. Now people are sitting on our ass, changing the channel by remote control(and will spend more time looking for the remote than it takes to change the channel manualy), ordering food to be delivered, over the internet, and we are yet to see what happens to us!
8 :
Of course fast food should be a health hazard.
9 :
Eating fast food once in a while might be ok, but a steady diet of it could be harmful to your health. too many calories and too much trans fat.
10 :
1. All of the fats from the oils 2. We already have an obersity problem in the united states 3. It takes away from much needed family time at the table each day 4. It is often times high in sodium which can lead to high blood pressure, heart attacks and stroke 5. Most of the food is extremly processed

Who's into eating health food a lot and staying away from junk food like chips, pop and candy?

I am, and i'm an organif food eater, also
3 :
I'm all about organic when it comes to health.
4 :
I gave up my final vice--soda--about 6 weeks ago. But I am drinking Gatorade instead, so the healthiness is questionable. I just learned that soda does nothing to hydrate at all, and the aspertamine is nasty. I quit chips and candy years ago. I am healthier, but still older....
5 :
i try to be but it can get tiresome
6 :
I haven't had a can of pop in 5 years. I drink either water or tea. I will have potatoe chips but not if they have MSG in them. I'm not a big fan of candy but prefer peanuts.

is there anything natural, like a health food, that you could use for lactose intolerance

soy milk, rice milk I live to report question copying spammers "love share"
2 :
Product called lactaid is all I know about. Comes in a roll like tums. You can get it at the groceer.
3 :
Take a spoonful of Buttermilk, (whey) laced with Cumminseed powder roasted in light heat, add small pinch of rock salt and give to the patient. The mixture should be slowly sipped , and not swallowed.. Repeat the treatment for six days. The disorder disappears like a bad dream.
4 :
there is nothing that has been proven with peer reviewed medical study. just limit your intake. dairy milk is so overrated as a food item anyway, humans don't need it...
5 :
Lactose intolerance is caused by your genes. There are several alleles (alleles are the genes located in the same place, that are slightly different to other alleles in the same place. For example, blue eyes are caused by one allele, brown by another.) which allow people to digest lactose after they would normally be weaned off breast milk. These alleles have shown up in several human populations and spread, where milk is used as a food stuff. People who have Swedish ancestors or East African Ancestors are more likely to be able to digest lactose, than those who have different ancestors. So if you want to make sure you do not have lactose intolerance, chose your parents well. Sadly there are no health food, or treatments that allow anyone to 'get over' lactose intolerance. Those with the wrong alleles of these genes, will, on reaching a specific age, will be unable to digest milk. I am so sorry to tell you these things, but there is nothing you can take to allow anyone to drink milk or eat milk by-products. However, you can drink soya milk or have soya products in place of milk

What are the health benefits of cutting out junk food

What are the health benefits of cutting out junk food?
I want to cut out junk food for a while because I'd like to see how it affects my health, basically not eating any packaged foods or anything that involves processing. Will my body eventually stop craving junk food after a while? What are the benefits? Thanks :)

weight loss. lower blood sugar levels. less salt. lower blood pressure. less bloating. better bowel movements. increased energy.
2 :
When I've stopped eating junk, I always lose weight, and I just feel better. You don't know exactly what ingredients are going in that crap, and even though it may taste good, it's not worth the risk. We DO know how high fat, salt, sugar, cholesteral, etc, etc... junk food is. Plus, I waited tables at a WELL KNOWN restaurant when I was in college, and even there, it was disgusting, the way the cooks and servers handled the food. Did they wash their hands? Perhaps, butprobably not. Anyway, when I go on a "fast food fast" I feel lighter than air, and when I'm eating garbage, I feel SOOO weighed down. AND YES.... I was addicted to a Mexican food place here for years.... After a month or so of not going there, I don't even THINK of stopping there. I started craving juice or water, not sodas, and fruit, not fried desserts. Also, my little boy is a type 1 diabetic. Not an ounce of fat on him. Sometimes I let him have McD's or something, and his blood sugar shoots WAY up, so there's the proof that it's no good. I'm about to try to eat healthier now myself! Good luck.
3 :
You can still eat packaged food, like rice, pasta or bread, as long as they’re the brown kind and not part of a prepared dish. You can also make your own pasta or bread if you want (but then the flour and sugar would come in packages, which is okay.). Some packages are not so bad, like having a piece of chocolate, some nuts, popcorns, tea… Your body will not stop craving junk food but you will have less and less cravings which will be less and less satisfying until they end up in your dreams where you could still enjoy them there, wake up with a guilty feeling that will subside as soon as you realize that it was just a dream and if it hadn’t been a dream, you would not have enjoyed the food anyway since your taste buds readjusted. It’s about the same thing when you stop smoking. It takes 3 weeks for your taste buds to readjust to a new taste, to rediscover the real taste of food when the food is not drenched in sugar, salt or fat. You won’t enjoy many restaurants anymore, where the fries are too greasy and salty (they probably use cheap saturated tropical oils), the meat too peppery and the ice-tea too sugary. Where a handful of barely cooked broccoli and carrots are just second bananas, trying to make that disastrous meal look legitimate, when they should be the stars. You will develop other cravings, healthier ones since your taste buds won’t be fooled anymore. You’ll buy a little electric fryer because when you’ll get a craving for French fries, it won’t be those unhealthy, greasy, salty, high calorie fast food kinds, frozen and cooked in cheap clogging arteries saturated tropical oils. Your craving for French fries will be for the ones you make, buying a couple of fresh potatoes, peeling and cutting them, using healthy canola oil and just a pinch of salt. You will want healthy, low calorie, tastier fries, the way they were always meant to be. Restaurants use tons of salt and sauces to hide the fact that their food does not taste like much. Eat a piece of lettuce or tomato by itself from Subway…will just taste like water. All their meats taste the same, all their cheese taste the same, barely like cheese…so they add tons of sauce so the whole thing might taste like something…like the sauce they added. When you’ll get a craving for a sandwich, you’ll get the real craving…for tomatoes that taste like tomatoes and lettuce that tastes like lettuce. Ham that tastes like ham and turkey that tastes like turkey. Cheese that tastes like cheese and tastes different from other cheeses. Then, a little mustard and ketchup will give you a low calorie, healthy, better tasting sandwich. You will willfully spend time shopping for the right ingredients, doing the sandwiches so you can experience the firework and symphony that a real sandwich should be. A few times, you will still buy fast food (being short of time, hungry…). After a few times of thinking “how could I ever eat that crap and even enjoy it??!! You’ll stop buying it. About the health benefits of cutting out junk food? It’s like asking…what would be the health benefits if that bully who beats me up every day would stop beating me up? First, you get the benefits of NOT eating junk food and to those, you add the benefits of eating healthier food, since you still have to eat something. You avoid all the bad things that come from getting too much sugar (hyperactivity, high blood sugar fluctuations, hunger, diabetes, cavities, weight gain, weakened immune system, etc…) too much salt (hypertension, kidney disease, heart attacks, strokes, etc…) too much saturated fat (bad cholesterol, obesity, heart diseases, cancer, etc…) and you get all the good things that come from eating healthy…a good, well functioning digestive system, enough nutrients for your body (better skin, better hair, better mood, better sleep…), energy, weight loss if needed, boost immune system, better health, slower aging process, longevity, the list goes on and on… You could eat junk for 20 or 30 years and feel fine until it hits you with a serious disease and even kills you. My best friend died of a heart attack. I begged her for years to stop adding tons of salt to her plate. She was shaking the salt shaker for 20 seconds over her plate. I know because I even timed her to prove my point but she could not stop because she could not taste the food without the salt. I would cook a healthy meal, like steamed salmon with broccoli, carrots and rice…she would add enough salt to her plate to make it unhealthy

Do you own a health food business?
Has your business increased since the green movement has become so much more visible this year? Are more people buying organic produce and meats or cleaning products/household goods that are biodegradeable? Or has the economic situation prevented people from doing this because they cannot afford it?

Nothing is different from any part of the world. Please flash up where from and to where, which city? Always take care, the normal self-care of yourself and safe-guard of any risk in health or environmental condition. Standard practices apply. If to country side or small villages, be more careful. No raw food, all must be cooked. Not to eat from roadside stall unless you are seasoned to the condition there. Always wash clean your hands and body at all time.
4 :
never drink tap water.water for drinking in shanghai mostly comes in dispenser.try not to eat roadside food!! watch where you're going.for the spit on the ground, people holding cigarettes.and be especially careful crossing the road!! quite a few drivers dont stop at the red light. bring your own chopsticks/fork&spoon when you eat out.
5 :
Follow normal hygeine practices. Also be aware that China uses growth hormone and antibiotics in food production. You may not receive this notice on the menu or packaging. Have a good trip.
6 :
Just boil the water before you drink it

You may want to seek a culinary institute for this. My guess is you have to learn a lot about food and proper preparation techniques. A culinary institute would be a logical place to look. Good luck!
2 :
You could take a course in Dietary Management (2 yr) from your local community college, which will teach you what institutional and hospital food standards need to be. But if you are thinking of becoming employed w/the Fed Govt.. then they require a degree (B.S. and up) in Agriculture. Good Luck !
3 :
all health department inspectors has to have a bachelors degree preferably in the health sciences. It would help if you have an R.N. license....registered nurse

Are you sick and tired of the Health Food (anti-meat/soda) Food Nazis

Are you sick and tired of the Health Food (anti-meat/soda) Food Nazis?
First the health Nazis attacked tobacco, after getting traction on that issue they began attacking fast food joints, then they turned their sights onto soda... the health food zealots won't be satisfied until red meat is outlawed! I don't know about you but I'm very angry and Hades will freeze over before I sit down to a supper of raw carrots and celery washed down with a disgusting glass of grapefruit juice. Fast food is just that... just something fast and convenient... soda is just a snack drink. I wouldn't go to a McDonalds or a BurgerKing for a salad or a piece of fruit and if that's all they served or even a majority of their menu I would go else where. Only a fool would attempt to eat fast food three times a day/seven days a week. But it is convenient when your either in a hurry or on the run. Are you as angry as I am? Are you sick and tired of the health food Nazis attempting to dictate what you can eat and drink? How much would you care to wager the HMO's are the ones ultimately behind the health food propaganda? ----------------------- Control tobacco, food ads to beat cancer - panel By Maggie Fox, Health and Science Editor Thu Aug 16, 12:14 AM ET http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070816/hl_nm/cancer_usa_dc;_ylt=Ap3_o.sabt8ApNmBJxcrP469j7AB A new presidential report on cancer takes on not only tobacco companies but the food industry while calling on the federal government to "cease being a purveyor of unhealthy foods" and switch to policies that encourage Americans to eat vegetables and exercise. The report, issued on Thursday, also urged changes in public and private insurance policies to encourage doctors to spend more time counseling patients on how to stay healthy by eating right, exercising and avoiding tobacco. "Ineffective policies, in conjunction with limited regulation of sales and marketing in the food and beverage industry, have spawned a culture that struggles to make healthy choices -- a culture in dire need of change," said the report, available on the Internet at http://pcp.cancer.gov. "Moreover, the panel was troubled to find that the efforts of those committed to an America less burdened by cancer often are compromised by federal, state, and local policies that have decreased the availability and affordability of healthy foods, limited physical education in schools, and created a built environment that discourages physical activity," it said. Several reports have shown that a third of all cancers are caused by tobacco use, and another one-third by obesity and inactivity. "This country must not ignore its moral obligation to protect the health of all Americans. We can and must empower individuals to make healthy choices through appropriate policy and legislation, and the panel urges you to use the power of your office toward this life-saving goal," the President's Cancer Panel, chaired by Howard University's Dr. LaSalle Leffall, wrote in a letter to Bush.

i am tired of a gov't that tells people how to eat, live, etc because i believe if people can't figure out on their own what makes them fat & unhealthy it's natural selection at its' best...fast food companies make billions of dollars by overpricing crap food filled w/ fat, salt & sugar. anyone who buys this & calls it food it only fooling himself...+ they are giving their hardearned $$ away for nothing...don't buy this junk & complain national health insurance prices are up. don't buy this junk & complain that you need to go on a diet. don't buy this junk & complain that kids overall weight is up. a national panel, funded by who/what, claims lack of access to healthy food & exercise....what a bunch of bull.....if you want your kids or yourself to exercise, get off your butts.....if you want decent food --choose it without the gov't telling you how....i'm not pro funding anyone who can't figure out how to cook a decent hamburger for himself!!!! & then walk it off....get your kids into sports & off the gaming systems!

US Brand Names: Serenity, Life Link, NCI Advanced Research, Atrium Nutrition Generic name: Lithium orotate Pros: Allegedly it has no side effects. But that turns out to be a lie (see below). Cons: No real documentation that it actually works. Has side effects after all. Is potentially harder on your kidneys and is more expensive than lithium carbonate.
2 :
Great answer above, but I would also like to point out that taking lithium as prescribed by your doctor includes getting blood tests often. It is easy to wreck your organs and/or reach toxic blood levels while taking this drug. Therefore, I would NOT RECOMMEND you self-medicate

Is organic food really good for your health

Is organic food really good for your health?
I'm not a strict vegetarian or health conscious person. But thesedays, if there were organic products and regular products, I'd choose to buy organic products believing its gonna do something good for my health. Are there any real difference in organic food and others? Like let's say I have this organic pasta. How good is it for me than eating regular pasta?

Very good, you should eat Organic food.
2 :
I sometimes notice that the organic vegetables and fruits look better and taste better that the commercially produced products. I don't think that they are any better for for. I doubt that eating just organic products will make any noticeable change in your life with the exception of making you a little more poorer.
3 :
Organic Food is rarely Pesticide Free. It is grown in Cow Manure that is high in bacteria. "It is as nutritious as an other product." - Catherine Dimateeo of the Organic Trade association. Is it more nutritious? "It is as nutritious as an other product." - Catherine Dimateeo of the Organic Trade association. More expensive-not more nutritious.
4 :
only if bought at a local farm organic doesn't mean healthy if its not really organic. I have seen the local market put stickers on reg food to get more money
5 :
Dave J - that's illegal and should be reported. Organic food is not going to be more nutritious for you. The difference is that organic producers are taking care of their land and working it to get the last possible perfect strawberry possible. They're not using mass-produced pesticides and fertilizers that upset the natural balance of flora and fauna. As a result, they aren't poisoning the land they grow food on. This means they produce less, so they do have to price their products higher. Yes, there are natural pesticidal compounds in organically grown food. However, each plant has its own chemical formula and thus there are many variations, whereas commercial producers use only a small group of pesticides. Thus, while the numbers are still small, we get a much larger cumulative consumption of them than of any given natural pesticide. Another good thing about organic farming is that the smaller farms are more likely to produce foods that are not the same as the large corporate farms. For instance, tomato breeds may be chosen for their flavor rather than their looks. This will help avoid the weakness of monoculture that corporate farms are courting
