What are some national health food stores besides Whole Foods

What are some national health food stores besides Whole Foods?
We just moved to Colorado and the nearest Whole Foods is really far away. What are some other chain/national health food stores (or, if you're in the Denver area, do you know of any that are in Aurora?) Thanks! Blast, no Trader Joe's in the Denver are at all! Can't believe I forgot about them though...

Wild Oats was a great chain, but I think they were purchased by whole foods.

Park East Kosher

Trader Joe's is awesome - and much cheaper than Whole Foods!
4 :
fresh & easy? (:
5 :
Trader Joe's, Henry's, and Mother's are great:)
6 :
We have Super H marts but they may be in the east only. If you see one, go! It's mostly an Asian supermarket, but they have a huge produce section and the meat and seafood is also decent sometimes. I always go there and find strange fruits and veggies I've never seen before. There is also Fresh market. They are like a mini whole foods.

What is a really good allergy/cold medicine found in a health food store

What is a really good allergy/cold medicine found in a health food store?
My boyfriend has been suffering from serious nasal congestion and a dry cough for about a month. He has seen several doctors and nothing they have given him has helped. We're hoping something from a health food store might work.

There are two GREAT products on the market that will knock that right out of him. Tylenol cold n flu (Hot microwave version)and Comtrex
2 :
benadryl works great for allergies i dont know about the cough.
3 :
try dextromethorphan 15mg - use 10mls every 4 hours
4 :
You don't need a health food store. Buy local honey... Honey that is made from within 25 miles from your home... Use it every day in tea or coffee and the allergeies will subside within a couple weeks.
5 :
I'm not sure about here (Scotsman in USA) but HF shops in uk have great staff who will be able to tell you the best things.
6 :
lots of vitamin C, benadryl, and if he's got stuff in his chest, a decongestant cough syrup.

What is the best all natural immune system booster from a health food store

What is the best all natural immune system booster from a health food store?
I was just really sick and had to be on antibiotics, so once I'm off them and better I'd like to go to the health food store and get things to kind of fix myself up, since taking any kind of "meds" makes me uncomfortable. Are Probiotics or any kind of protein drinks, etc any good? Thanks!

Some of the most popular natural products for boosting the immune system are Colostrum, Mushrooms (Maitake, Shiitake, and Reishi), IP-6 (Inositol Hexaphosphate), Beta Glucans, Elderberry, Echinacea (should be taken short-term only), and any antioxidants. As far as Probiotics, that's the beneficial bacteria that lives in your intestinal tract. If you are taking antibiotics for a short time, you should get some good Probiotics to take after the antibiotics are completely finished. If you take them together, the antibiotics will kill the Probiotics before they can be beneficial and it might lessen the potency or effect of the antibiotics... but you'll need the Probiotics to replenish your intestinal flora after the antibiotics have killed them all off. Protein powders are just protein (like a hamburger)... they don't directly impact your immune system at all. Good luck!
2 :
Probiotics are excellent for keeping the body populated with good bacteria. Protein drinks offer nothing in terms of immune system enhancement. Other good choices are Oil of Oregano, Olive Leaf, Vitamin C, Green Tea, and a good multivitamin. A healthy diet and exercise are important also, as is drinking plenty of water, avoiding sugar, alcohol, and nicotine.
3 :
I like using probiotics after being on anitbiotics, and there are many out there to choose from. They can be kind of pricey, though. Yogurt is a good way to "reseed" your gut after anti-b use. Look for brands with "active cultures" right on the label, because if it's not there, there aren't any beneficial bacteria in there! Dannon has a line of yogurt and drinks that purport to have more active cultures in them. They would be a good route to start on if you don't want to invest the $20 (or more) in a bottle of probiotic capsules. I also take elderberry concentrate for immune system boosting. Here's a link about elderberry: http://www.elderberry.net/medical.html Hope you feel better soon!
4 :
To the best of my understand: Vitmen C is good Echinecia is a little better Echinecia and Goldseal is better still and Oil of Oregano is the best possible. A good health food store might well have a suplement with all of the above ingredients listed.
5 :
Astragalus is a good general immune system booster too. And probiotics are an excellent idea, especially after antibiotics. Check this link for good brands: http://www.consumerlab.com/reviews/Probiotic_Supplements_Including_Lactobacillus_acidophilus_Bifidobacterium_and_Others/probiotics/
6 :
Echinacea and a good probiotic are excellent for boosting the immune system, especially after a course of antibiotics.
7 :
"Immune boosting" is a bogus concept common to many different kinds of altmed, but in particular the Naturopathic crowd, who seem to embrace every kind of silly treatment There really is no such thing in terms of supplements. Your body's immune system consists of various kinds of white blood cells, immune globulins and something known as complement whose roles in fighting disease and infection have been worked out in some detail. You can read up on clinical immunology on your own, but it is quite complicated. Your immune system does become a bit stressed when you are critically ill, but recovers quickly with time, rest and proper nutrition. Probiotics on the other hand supposedly replace your bodies stock of intestinal bacteria that may become depleted when being treated with anti-bacterial agents. The most common example of this is women who tend to get vaginal yeast infections after a course of antibiotics. There is alos an opportunistic gut infection called Clostridium difficile that can cause a nasty diarrhea typically in frail elderly patients on antibiotics in a hospital setting. There actually is some fair evidence that probiotics, yougurt culture, acidophillus etc may help return you body's normal flora, but the vast majority of otherwise healthy people who take antibiotics don't need them...your body recovers pretty quickly on its own. The best way to avoid problems like this is not taking antibiotics for inappropriate reasons, like viral infections (most colds, coughs, sore throats, ear aches etc) and I spend half my time explaining to patients that they DON"T need them There was also a recent study on the use of probiotics in the setting of people recovering from pancreatitis that their use INCREASED infection, complication rate and death. So they are not a completely "benign' entity either.

Can I get health food at a regular grocery store for less than at a health food store? where

Can I get health food at a regular grocery store for less than at a health food store? where?
I am a total health nut, but being a health nut, means that I want the best quality I can get that doesn't have all those dyes, high fructose corn syrup, growth hormones, etc... But the problem is, is that health food stores can go way out of bugget for me. Where are some cheaper places for me to get good, healthy food for less?

Trader Joe's, if you have them in your area, typically carries organic produce for less than the ubiquitous Whole Foods. I live in New York City, though, and I have to say that TJ's produce section is pathetic compared to Whole Foods'. Also consider local farmers' markets (or better yet, farmers directly), or food co-ops (once again, usually in urban areas). Finally, you could subscribe to a CSA (community-support agriculture) which typically provides ample produce at a reasonable price - although you do have to pay a larger sum up front. Find a local CSA here: http://www.localharvest.org/csa/
2 :
I've seen some of the Red Mill products at Kroger's. Here in the mid-Louisiana area, (Lafayette, La) we have Vitamin Plus and some other scattered locations. Nice prices. I believe one of the reasons they have reasonable prices is because (1) they don't accept credit cards and pass that savings (no credit card trasaction fees) onto the customers (2) they don't have a scanning system at the register. Note - NOT all foods at the health food store is healthy for you either.

How to make home-made health food doughnuts

Hey, here's a recipe for vegan donuts which I've been told is lovely; http://theurbanhousewife.blogspot.com/2007/08/lolos-baked-vegan-donuts-glazed-or.html Not sure how much they count as a health food but hopefully they'll still be delicious enough to make it worth it! X
2 :
Doughnuts and health food should not even be used together. They are so full of the fat they were fried in to almost classify them as giant fat pills. As much as you like them there is noting you can do the deep fried food to make it "healthy". If you do not believe me go look up bio-fuel and sources for used vegetable oil. Doughnut shops are not listed. Not because they have some law against using old doughnut oil. But rather they do not have any excess oil. It all goes into the doughnuts. Now on the other hand if you simply like them, go for it. I would suggest you not overdo them. But there is no reason why you can treat yourself to something you like now and then.

What kind of aphrodisiac is sold in a liquid form from maybe a health food store?
My friend said her boyfriend had some liquid in a bottle and he smelled it and told her to smell it that it would increase their sensation. He says he got it from the health food store. She says it smelt like gasoline.

What kind of background or experience do you need to work in a health food store

What kind of background or experience do you need to work in a health food store?
I would like to either start working in the industry or own my own health food store in the next few years. Do you NEED university of college degrees or diplomas? Or can you get training and would that be sufficient? Anyone in the field?

A bachelor's degree in business or marketing combined with actual experience working in a market would be the ideal combination. It doesn't matter what kind of business or industry you want to go into, you need to know how to run a business as a start in order to be successful.

Chamberlains is the best known. Also Publix has a lot of good foods. They have Arnold's high fiber bread. Kashi products. Greenwise items which is a whole area of the store dedicated to that.
