What would you look for in an innovative health food bar that you would actually buy and eat?

it would have to taste good -- I don't want that fake chocolate taste -- if it isn't going to taste like real chocolate, find another flavor. I wouldn't want it to be lumpy -- I prefer chewy -- I don't want to bite into it, and get an explosion of blue-berry, or something . .. that's just nasty.
2 :
It depends on what you're looking for. Luna Bars are really good if you're working out, as are most protein bars. The only caution is that you should read the nutrition labels. Some "nutrition" bars are filled with nasty things like saturated fats and sugars. Look for bars that have a moderate amount of carbs, plenty of fiber, protein, and potassium. Stay away from ones that have all the extra fat. Chocolate health bars might look good and taste good, but it's better for you to have granola or caramel instead. And there are plenty of varieties that taste really great

Is the fast food industry responsible for health problems within our culture

Is the fast food industry responsible for health problems within our culture?
With the close attention to the culture, argue whether or not, or to what degree, the fast food industry is responsible for health problems within our culture?
Etiquette - 11 Answers

1 :
Nope, we are responsible for choosing to eat there.
2 :
Not the main cause but a big contributor. We are raised and brainwashed from when we are little to love fast food because it is good, cheap, and convenient. The fast food really isn't cheap in the long run and does taste good but I'm sure your body will tell you differently. It does have a big impact because instead of going out to eat or even preparing a meal we can just drive to it and not even step out of the car. But really it is our own fault because we should know better.
3 :
Yes, somewhat. However fast food industry is not guilty of people eating their stuff. They are only guilty of making fast food with too many grease/fat, calories, sugar, and other bad components. People eat fast food only because they like it, no one is forcing them to eat. And no, I DON'T work for the fast food industry.
4 :
No, actually, I'm one of the few people that truly believes that fast food (in moderation) is just AS healthy if not more healthy than food people make at home. In fact, i got a hamburger meal at mcdonald's with a soda and compared the amount of fat and calories in that meal to 2 slices of homemade lasagna, and the mcdonald's meal was wayyyy healthier.
5 :
Do you mean we are now mandated to eat fast food? I thought obamacare was going to force us to stay away from that, or start getting taxed on the more oxygen we use and carbondioxide we exhale because of our weight index given to the government by our doctor which needs to meet a government mandate for our size does not comply????????????????????. Look eat at home where your suppose to and take a sandwich for lunch to school, just don't leave your lunch on the bus in the morning. Quit blaming other people for your mistakes.
6 :
No, the individual is responsible for the choices (s)he makes when choosing food. If it was the only food available to the consumer, then it is a community and government concern that there is a demographic of people within their nation who cannot afford to obtain fresh fruit and vegetables, and unprocessed proteins.
7 :
No; I believe it's just the uncontrollable gluttony of our fellow Americans.
8 :
Why would someone put certain foods into their mouths and then blame the place that sold that food? No one forced that food on them. Take some responsibility for your own actions.
9 :
It's the law of supply and demand. We wanted more fast food, we got more fast food. People didn't want to cook at home, so affordable alternatives became popular. You are putting the cart before the horse. I cook at home MOST days. I haven't opened a can of vegetables in years, only use fresh. Usually have 3 course or more meal. Seldom actually work more than a 1/2 hour in actualy standing in the kitchen time, even for a dinner for 6 guests. It isn't difficult. It requires shopping, organization, and the inclination to do it rather than ordering a pizza or grabbing a burger. I always have left-over in the fridge which are my lunch most days. I buy fruits and have on hand. Bake cakes 3-4 at a time and freeze. Anyone could do it, if they wanted, but they don't.
10 :
No. It is the affluence which has enriched both our culture and our diets. Have a polite day.
11 :
People who have a choice of what they eat are responsible for there diet. If a person doesn't have the character and will power to eat properly and choose nutritionally healthy food you should look at there parents for the reason they don't eat healthier meals. I believe lack of proper parenting is the base cause of much of what is wrong in our society. Good family life should be encouraged by government much more than it is. There should be consequences for being a poor parent. Our government tends to throw money at the problems after it is to late. There is a lot of truth in the old saying " as the twig is bent so grows the tree!" Personal responsibility by parents is the key

What is your favorite health food

What is your favorite health food?
Or healthy meal? Starting a diet on Sunday, I would like a variety of ideas so i don't get bored!

I love making a fresh fruit salad in the summer for dessert! Yummy fresh berries, bananas, apples, grapes, oranges and my very favorite... pineapple! I also like when I can make my breakfast at the house, instead of grabbing something like a granola bar... If I get to eat at home (mainly on the weekends), I'll make myself some eggs (with just pepper) a piece of my multi grain bread (yummy) with a piece of fruit and possibly a yogurt.
2 :
I like a great big bowl of homemade soup. I toss in a few noodles, then add some chicken breast or beef tips, a few potatoes, lots of carrots and celery, an onion and some minced garlic, a little thyme and sage, a bullion cube or two, and maybe a couple chopped tomatoes. MMmmmmm, very nutritious and tasty.
3 :
Stir fried cabbage with 1 scrambled egg using 1 spray of oil. I usually put a sprinkle of low fat mozzarella cheese and some salt and pepper on top. Contains about 300 calories but fills me up more than anything.
4 :
Try this for one week and you really lose weight if you didn't workout 1-tuna + pasta(2 soup spoon only) + leaf vegetables 2-shrimps + rice(2 soup spoon only) + mixed vegetables 3-cod fish with mash potato(1/2patato only )+ steamed broccoli 4-roast salmon +one small boiled potatoes + steamed asparagus 5-roast steak + French fries(6 cuts ) and salad 6-roast breast of chicken with steamed mixed vegetables in between main meals always eat fruits like banana or an apple or pineapple
5 :
My favorite is a healthy breakfast. I eat a high fiber cereal (Kashi brand - Cinnamon Harvest), with low fat or fat free milk, along with 1/2 a grapefruit or an apple on the side.
6 :
I'm Rosie O'Donnell, my favorite is ice cream-lots of calcium
7 :
Ooh, I love to snack on hummus with fresh red peppers cut up and mixed into it... best when eaten with pita bread or wheat crackers. My favorite healthy meal? Salmon and vegetables. Yummmm...
8 :
I don't know if this counts as "health food" exactly, but I really like hummus and baked pita chips. I think as long as the hummus doesn't have too much olive oil (which I think is good for you anyway) that it isn't that high in fat.
9 :
Oatmeal dry cereal, Cheerios, fruit, Fat Free Pudding, Do not drink diet soda pop, drink water. That will help you lose weight.
10 :
for lunch i like to make veggie sandwiches - I usually use wheat or whole grain bread, mustard, grated cheddar and mozarella cheese, sprouts, tomatoes, cucumbers, and some people like advocado. For the side I have shredded carrot salad with vinegarette dressing, which is shredded carrots, chopped golden apples, and raisins. Of course, to spoil myself I always need a peanut butter cookie to finish. This lunch is filling and healthy - I don't get that 3pm let down at the office from it either.
11 :
My favourite health food is probably banana. My favourite healthy meal is what I usually have for breakfast: 2 to 3 small pieces of fruit cut up and topped with plain low fat yoghurt and a sprinkling of homemade muesli. It makes it soo much easier to get up in the morning when I have that to look foward to. Other things you can try: - a sandwich with cucumber, beetroot and lettuce (or your favourite salad veggies) and wholemeal bread - pita bread with salady stuff inside and a little low fat grated cheese or lean meat if you like - dried fruit & raw nuts to snack on - fresh veggie soup - just make sure it doesn't have too many additives if you're buying it - sushi - veggies on brown rice - homemade smoothie made with your fave fruits, banana and plain yoghurt Oh and a really nice snack I like to have is a piece of wholemeal/wholegrain toast with sliced banana on top, and then sprinkled with a little cinnamon. Mmmm.
12 :
Instant oatmeal packets cooked with unsweetened applesauce instead of water. Rice cakes with a little peanut butter or applesauce and cinnamon. Whole grain mini bagels (they're perfect portion size for dieting. I make chili by sauteing onions, green peppers, and frozen corn until it starts to brown, then I stir in 2 tbsp lime juice, some chili powder, black beans, and two cans of chili tomatoes. Sometimes I add crumbled up boca burgers or avocado on top. Its low fat but really filling. Yoplait light yogurts are so yummy and only 100 calories (I love pineapple upside down cake and boston cream pie flavors). Cutting wheat pita bread into wedges, spraying it with olive oil cooking spray and sprinkling with spices (garlic, rosemary, chili powder, or cinnamon are good), then baking them in a 350 degree over for 8-10 minutes makes yummy chips to dip into regular or fruit salsa

For unusual herbs and tinctures: G Baldwin & Co and they also have a mail order catalogie if you prefer to order through the post. For vitamins and minerals and the regular health supplements: Healthspan ..and they also run a mail order catalogue. I think though that Healthspan are located somewhere in the Channel Islands. I would use g00gle.co.uk to locate such as parasite cleanse and oxypowder as I am not sure of a good shop in the UK for those. Make sure the site has a secure checkout of you are going to order online. Check their return policy and where they deliver to and delivery charges, etc. Hope that helps

Why can't Science make a health food thats delicious

Why can't Science make a health food thats delicious?
Its seems so simple compared to everything else we've done. We went to the moon and back, we cured deadly diseases, but try and make a Tofu Burger taste like a wendy's spicy chicken sandwich and you have the entire scientific community scratching their heads. Your telling me we haven't figured out the essence of all flavor yet?
Other - Science - 4 Answers

1 :
Because nothing's as good as the real thing.
2 :
One of the main ingredients in fast food is lots of salt. That makes anything taste better, but that excess salt is bad for you. No, a tofu burger is not that good. But how about sautéed tofu cubes with black bean sauce? Or, fresh vegetables sautéed with the right sauce are very good, as is a well prepared steak. Small new potatoes roasted in olive oil are great. Bottom line, well prepared food is great, and also very healthy. .
3 :
What tastes good and is good for you is fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains and nuts. They do not need to be made because they are great already. Soy sauce is fermented soy with salt, and it adds to flavor. Spices are natural. Soy has been made into many foods that are good tasting, maybe not the same as what it tries to replace but still good.
4 :
Who told you a tofu burger is healthy? Do you believe everything someone tells you? Read the reference. It includes some actual research on foods healthy for the human body, and demolishes a whole bunch of myths. What science needs to do is be honest and objective about doing its job, and not be biased by funding pressures or even peer pressure. Watch some cooking shows on TV and you'll see lots of ways to prepare basic, healthy food that tastes really good. Fat is not the villain. That honor belongs more to carbohydrates (especially refined carbohydrates), and all the bizarre chemicals some put into what they call food

What common Market/Health food stores can I go to that will

What common Market/Health food stores can I go to that will?
have Folic Acid Capsules, Tea tree Oil, ??? This is for treating a Bacterial Vaginosis infection...I just finished my antibiotics but I know the infection hasnt gone completely away...this is the second time ive had it in 5 months...maybe it never went away the first time.

Whole Foods. Target pharmacy might carry these.
2 :
Waldbaum's, CVS, Walmart, GNC. The Folic Acid would be in the Vitamin Isle at the Drug Stores, whereas the Tea Tree Oil is in the aisle with Nail Products. The Tea Tree Oil should be in a very small, dark bottle and make sure it's the pure form. The larger sizes are diluted with other oils. You may try taking sitz baths with apple cider vinegar. Also taking acidophilus supplements, or consuming yogurt to replace the friendly bacteria depleted by the antibiotics. Garlic Capsules may also be beneficial.
3 :
ANY pharmacy will have Folic acid - its one of the most commonly taken vitamins, because its a very commonly prescribed drug, and buying it over the counter is cheaper (yes, vitamins ARE drugs, this one is used to reduce homocysteine, and to treat certain forms of anemia, among other things.) I don't know why you would want it for BV....are you thinking that by reducing estriadol that you might impact vaginal pH? I wouldn't count on it... And tea tree oil is so common that ANY health food store will have it, although the antimicrobial spectrum of it (which is far more limited than people would like to admit, or know) is not capable of killing the pathogens that cause BV. You are better off calling your physician, and getting another course of antibiotics, or another antibiotic (the germs that are causing BV are becoming immune to metroconazole rather quickly, amoxicillian might be a better bet....talk to your doctor about this....) But to answer your question - any health food store should have both of those items, should you chose to follow that route. Sometimes I just feel compelled to throw in an additional two cents.
4 :
omg jess we got burgled
