"Prescription For Nutritional Healing" by Phyllis & James Balch. Excellent book!

I agree with Sawyer, that is one of the best books. I have used it extensively.

I am new at the health food market and am going to check out the book that was suggested below for myself also. I wanted to write though to let you know I found a couple of books made by the health food store itself that offered tips and lots of information on how to choose products and what their main uses were. You may be able to find something similar at your health food store. I went in with a list of things that my father's doctor recommended and I had never heard of more than half of them. I found the people to be very helpful and friendly. And like I said, in the different sections there was books that provided information - the most helpful was in the veggies section. They also have an encyclopedia of herbs and remedies that I was able to reference right there. Someone in an earlier question I read also recommended a book called Back to Eden to get good descriptions on herbs and other natural products (I ordered if from Amazon but I haven't seen it yet so I can't vouch for it). Good luck, I look forward to learning more on this topic with the other replies you receive. D

What are some similarities and differences between Food Critics and Health Inspectors

What are some similarities and differences between Food Critics and Health Inspectors?
I know they are very different when it comes to judging food, but what are those differences and do they have anything else in common?

A food critic would be focusing on a few things like: the quality & origin of the ingredients used to create the meal, the overall taste, the overall visual presentation, quality of service, the value in pricing schemes, infomation on who cooked the food (the chef)...their previous food experience & work related history, comparisons & contrasts to other similar restaurants. They give you the "lowdown" on your entire dining experience at a given restaurant establishment. Conversely, a Health/Food Inspector ensures that the restaurant establishment is handling the food in accordance to the standards established by City/State Laws. They check things like: the cleanliness of the restaurant, the certification/food handlers permits of the staff, temperature readings of the freezers, the fridge and the "food holding areas" (like steam tables), they check for pest problems (ants, mice, roaches, rats), proper food storage facilities/proper temperatures/expiration dates on ingredients, etc... Health/Food Inspectors are not concerned about how the food tastes, how it is priced, where the chefs learned their culinary skills, how the food is presented. They focus on the overall risk to the health and safety of the patrons...preventing food borne illnesses. Hope this info helps.
2 :
They can both close a restaurant down overnight with the bad report

Which is more important health care or Food and Drug Administration?
Since our health care system is doing just fine as it is should we privatize our FDA so private investment groups can benefit?

As has been consistently shown over the course of human history, it is almost always worse (less efficient and more costly) to have an impersonal, unaccountantable bureaucracy running something compared the same work being done by someone with who can profit or lose depending on how good (or bad) a job they do. I don't understand why you find this concept so hard to grasp

Could someone give me two food labels, one with a health claim

Could someone give me two food labels, one with a health claim?
I need to find two food labels to compare for an assignment. I need one that has a health claim, but I don't have a label like that at home. I need an answer ASAP. Some either find a link or links that include two labels total or scan two food labels. A best answer will be awarded to the person who gets me two usable food labels first. Ready, set, go!

Can a new resident in Phoenix, AZ qualify for food stamps and health insurance right away

Can a new resident in Phoenix, AZ qualify for food stamps and health insurance right away?
I am moving to Arizona, Phoenix and need health insurance and public assistance right away. Is there a waiting period to qualify? Thank you for your help.

Sure you can apply right away, if you have a case open in another state you will need to close it. Don't worry they have to give you 10 day notice so in most cases you end up getting your assistance for an extra month from the old state. The new state will need to verify that your case is closed in the old state, so you can get a letter from the old state or the new state can call your worker in the old state. You can only get food stamps, Tanf, and child care in one state at a time. So if you had food stamps in your old state in August then Arizona wont issue you more until September, but don't wait to apply because it can take a few weeks to be approved and you don't want a delay in benefits. You can have medicaid in two states at the same time because usually medicaid in one state wont pay for medical treatment in another.

I don't know about the just spicy food, as a flavor, but a lot of spicy foods contain a lot of vitamin C.
2 :
it's reported to improve blood flow as well, which can have all over benefits from stopping heart attacks to making you think faster.
3 :
Peppers contain tons of vitamin C, maybe that's why they are considered to be very healthy and may make you 'live longer.' I can eat a teaspoon full of wasabi without crying... but there is a way to do that hehe. I love spicy food too... but you have to be careful if you have ulcers or hyper acidity.
4 :
That's an excellent question :) The medicinal benefits have been studied for years. Foods with high levels of capsaicin help with digestion and you will be left with a squeaky clean bowel. As for longevity, studies show that spicy-food-eating people tend to live 17% longer on average
