Why do some people that smoke eat health food and drink only bottled water? Am I missing something here

Why do some people that smoke eat health food and drink only bottled water? Am I missing something here?
I have to say, I laugh inside when I see smokers worried about their water or food. Drink from the tap and use one less plastic bottle. Drinking filtered water will not prolong your life beyond the time at which you develope lung cancer. I understand the need for some to feel cool and pay $3.00 for a starbucks coffee but the smoker who buys bottled water and organic eggs cracks me up. Smokers please help me understand

Why can't smokers enjoy the taste of bottled water and organic eggs over cloudy tap water and hormone-laced eggs? Do you have a problem with people having a food preference? Drinking filtered water won't prolong anyone's life, but it tastes better than the chlorined, mineral added crap that comes from the tap that you practically have to chew just to swallow it.
2 :
These people are usually interested in losing weight and keeping it off, not being healthy. Cigarettes help curve cravings for food and help keep a person's weight down. Not really what they should be thinking about. Losing weight for the numbers not the health benefit is just ridiculous.
3 :
i dont smoke everyday once in a while at night clubs but i see your point i dont try to eat like that all the time but for those that do smoke and eat well....well thats just dumb...
4 :
just because someone has 1 bad habit doesnt mean they want to put any more crap in their bodies..i understand your point entirely..no different then a fat person drinking diet soda...alot of smokers are addicted to smoking and if they can't quite they at least try to counter the effects by not eating more bad stuff..
5 :
I don't get it either, but I have seen it also........ People lighting up as they walk out the door of Whole Foods Mkt. dropping a lot of $$$ on health food.
6 :
Um, not everyone who smokes gets lung cancer, or has any ill effects for that matter. That's like saying someone who worked out or ran was wasting his time by eating healthily, just because he drinks more alcohol than the average person, or has a family history of cancer or heart disease or whatever.
7 :
What I don't get is people who pump up in the gym, but get pissy drunk three times a week.
8 :
Yeah, you've got a point for smokers who plan on smoking throughout their entire life. Even for that group though, if they ate whatever and became obese, then they would have two major health issues, instead of just one. So I guess that really answer's the question. They are risking getting smoking related diseases rather than getting smoking AND weight related diseases. Smoking is becoming less cool as time goes by though and people know it's bad for them. I think the majority of smoker's realize how bad it is for them and intend to quit whenever they manage to muster the will power. To Becca9892003's Response: "No different than a fat person drinking diet soda" So...what? Fat people are supposed to consume as many calories as possible and just keep gaining weight until it kills them? Soda isn't really very good for people in general, but if anyone drinks it, they should avoid consuming empty calories without any nutritional value and drink diet soda, regardless of how much they weigh. To John R's Response: "Um, not everyone who smokes gets lung cancer" You are right, but it sounds like you're in denial also. If it's not lung cancer, then it will be throat cancer or something else. Smoking is a HUGE risk factor that leads to a ton of diseases. Unless you are suicidal and really want to work on dying young, you've got to focus on keeping your body as healthy as you can and not abusing it. Not EVERYone who was exposed to the nuclear radiation in Hiroshima in WWII got sick and died, but would you want to expose yourself to nuclear radiation because of that

Does spicy Korean food have ANY health benefits

Does spicy Korean food have ANY health benefits?
I'm Korean, so I eat spicy Korean food basically everyday. Does eating spicy Korean food, or Korean food in general, have any health benefits at all? I'm also a vegetarian, so all of the dishes I eat are meat and dairy free. *This is a serious question, so please don't leave any rude or useless remarks!

it boots your serotonin levels, so it makes you happier

I am a former chef and enjoy Korean food weekly here in Toronto Canada, and "Yes" all spicy foods no matter the cuisine have health benefits, with Korean food you have so many veggie options and there foods are lower in fat as they broil and stew more and use less oil. I absolutley love Kimchee, and I buy a quart a week at my Korean market, it is good for your blood, digestion, skin and has other healing properties too. Like other spicey foods you have to develope a tolerance, it is hard to leep into the ultra hot food, it is best to buy spices, pepper pastes and sauces and use them at home and every so often increase the amounts ever so slightly, and overtime your able to handle things that much better. I am a chili nut, and I eat a very closed vegetarian diet due to a medical condition and find to do this spicey foods and ingredients are essential, try it and you will see, when in Korean restaurants and you get the small salads and added veggies, try them all, alot of times they vary so you can see the levels of spcie/heat there is in them.

Besides it tasting fabulous and in turn making you feel better? What more do you need?! I love spicy food, especially Asian...so yummy!!! Any type of vegetarian diet is going to be healthy, so I'd say you're ok!
4 :
Kimchee is a fermented food that is supposed to have loads of beneficial pro-biotic bacteria. Also, supposedly, chile peppers help lower blood pressure.
5 :
I believe that the world's cusines evolved to keep the people that eat them healthy. Kimchee is a wonderful way to preserve the vitamins of summer vegetables through the year. Rice and soy and sugar and eggs provide energy and basic protein which is easily rounded out by small amounts of more expensive meat protein. There is no reason to question the acquired wisdom of the way Koreans traditionally eat. However, any traditional diet was also based on a certain lifestyle and expectations of the amount of food consumed. Hard working peasants need more calories that sedient office workers. Also, it is not wise to pick and choose within the cusine. Not liking kimchee leaves a big hole in the nutrient profile of Korean food. Just like eating the rice and not the beans leaves a big hole in the Mexican diet. And not liking poi makes the Hawiian diet untenable. As we have grown richer, we eat more of the special, feast foods and less of the plant-based everyday foods. And as we migrate from the Chinese restaurant, to the Mexican restaurant, to Applebee's we pick and choose without regard to any particular cuisine. Hence, the problems of today's table

what is the difference between an inexpensive dog food and a high end dog food, health wise

Cheaper brands use less protein and more cereal type fillers in their foods. And usually more fat. Dogs need a certain amount of protein to be healthy. I'm not one for buying the high priced dog foods but looked into one that I felt was better quality than the cheap stuff. I finally settled on Pedigree. I can get a 52 lb bag at Sam's Club for less the $25., it's packed with good nutrition and all three of my dogs eat it well. They all have nice shiny coats and are all healthy. I have a chocolate lab, a German shepard mix and a Papillion and all of them are doing great on it. Now for puppies, you really need a good quality dog food, just like feeding human babies formula. Read the information on the packages and I bet you can settle on a brand that won't cost you an arm and a leg. Better food now means a healthier adult dog.

Just because one brand is more expensive, dosent mean its better. If you look at the ingredients, one of the first three should be meat. Hope this helped!

Why bother with universal health care or food stamps/WIC

Why bother with universal health care or food stamps/WIC?
If you can't afford health care and you are sick or forbid have a disease and need surgery or expensive treatment, you better hope to have good health coverage that is affordable. So, why should we give the poor food and milk & diapers for babies they can't afford?

If we aren't here for each other, then what are we here for?
2 :
We shouldn't, you described enabling. It be like automatically passing students because it's sad they failed, yet they never learned anything. I am right, you can't refute my logic. It's unpopular because I don't use emotions. Justifying things by saying it's "Sad" doesn't cut it. It's not logical, just pure emotion.
3 :
Great question...well, WHATEVER happens to those babies, heaven forbid they be aborted in the womb. That would just be, like....wrong. But after they're born, they can go fuck themselves.
4 :
Abortions are cheaper.
5 :
It's not the baby's fault, but there has to be some kind of "Middle Ground". You are right, as it stands we are enabling irresponsibility. I personally know two people who collect welfare exclusively, and spit out kids like hot-bread. And I don't know that many people

My favorite natural brand for personal care is Aubrey Organics. They are one of the few brands that are truly 100% natural (chemical-free), unlike so many others who claim they are "natural" but are not. My favorite natural make-up brand is Everyday Minerals. They are 100% natural, unlike Bare Minerals which contain Bismuth Oxychloride and Parabens in their makeup. Everyday Minerals also has extremely reasonable prices - the most reasonable I've found anywhere. You can only purchase from them online, however. I've listed their websites below. :-)

I want to start my own business... Health food store

I want to start my own business... Health food store?
Hello! I would really like to start my own business. I would want it to be a healh food store.... like a whole foods store since there isn't anything with like that within 75 miles of where I live. I am Vegetarian and I am sick of not being able to find any of the products that I like in the area! Any suggestions on how to go about this? How hard will it be? Where would I get the products and food that I need to stock the shelves? Any suggestions?

I think its quite admirable you want to start such an enterprise! It may be difficult to make a go of it, but the best way to begin is research your market and build a business plan that you believe in. Think about things like - why is there no other whole/health food store in your area, are there enough people in your town/city to support such a business. Are you close to organic farmers, perhaps starting a co-op? You need to have access to good local produce and other resources to keep your customers coming back for more.

Go to http://www.score.org/ and in the upper left hand corner, enter your zip code. On the next screen, you will get information on the nearest SCORE chapter. Call them and arrange for a free meeting with a SCORE counselor.
