are there any raw, living food, or health stores in Kansas

are there any raw, living food, or health stores in Kansas?
I am moving to kansas in a month and I am really getting into healthy living and specifically vegan and raw food dishes. In California-we are at the cutting edge of that lifestyle-but I have no idea what awaits in Kansas. Can I even get organic veggies? All help is appreciated.

The answer to your question will depend on where in Kansas you are going to be. There are stores that have "organic" foods in the Kansas City area. Lawrence and Manhattan also have stores that offer alternatives to the "regular fare" found in the typical supermarket. I am guessing that Wichita would probably also have this as an option. Many cities and small towns in Kansas have "farmer's markets" where local vendors sell a variety of home-grown or locally-produced items and products, including some organic vegetables and fruits. This not only is a great option to meet the food needs of your lifestyle, it is a great way to get to know folks who live in your city or town. Hope this helps. Good luck on your plans to move to Kansas!

you should not have a problem finding health stores i live around the kansas city, MO area and LOVE going over to the Kansas side to do some shopping Whole Foods Wild Oats Farmer's Markets....easy to find on the Missouri side too but then again it depends on where you are moving to in KS the closer you are to MO as i am thinking the more populous bigger the cities and towns.......but A LOT of Kansas is still very rural good luck

How do I go about getting a cut in pay so I can get free health CARE and food stamps

How do I go about getting a cut in pay so I can get free health CARE and food stamps?
seems the responsible thing to do now that the health care bill is almost passed...I wouldn't want to make Obama a liar and not qualify for it....

Who said anything about free health care?
2 :
Create a bank, and let it fail, then the Republicans will take care of you for life.
3 :
Sounds like you been Libslapped! LMAO
4 :
ask for a pay cut, your company will love you for it, more profit
5 :
Quit your job and take a part time janitor position. Or, you might just be able to claim you can't find a job at all with the economy the way it is. It's not all it's cracked up to be, though. Go ride around the government subsidized housing district in your town and take a look. If you want to live that way then go for it. As for me, I'll keep paying my way.
6 :
I am wondering the same thing, I am going to do my best.-- this is my goal..
7 :
you have to make less than $800 a month for the food stamps, so if you want to live on that much money then go have fun
8 :
You already are there. You aren't in a union and you make almost nothing.
9 :
Move to a right to work state.
10 :
I have no idea what you're talking about. You must be misinformed. Maybe you deserve a cut in pay.
11 :
Judging from your question, it looks like you're already there...
12 :
Just tell them you're an illegal immigrant and they'll fix you right up no questions asked.
13 :
Hang in there , you'll lose your job soon,(unless you work for acorn),then you'll qualify.
14 :
There will be no "free" health care although "Personal Incentives" for both the House and Senate versions will offer subsidies to those with incomes below 400% of federal poverty level to qualify.
15 :
Are you white? Dont even try to make 0bama happy if you are. You have already failed him

If health care is a basic right, should food be a basic right

If health care is a basic right, should food be a basic right?
A public health care option would be for EVERYONE - not just poor people. Should we have a "public food option" for EVERYONE - not just poor people? FOOD STAMPS ARE ONLY FOR POOR PEOPLE.

Does it make any sense at all that people should starve to death in the richest and most obese country in the world?
2 :
Yep. Do away with food stamps and deliver dry rice and dry beans to every person who requests free food from the government. Problem solved. Next. ...
3 :
And clothes, shoes, computers, internet, cell phones, kool aid Free everything woo hoo! How will we pay for this again? Let's not forget it triples in 10 years. 3.6 trillion, just add it on baby! http://www.usdebtclock.org/
4 :
Trust me, the progressive liberals have taking over the food industry on their list. They want total control over every single basic need that insures life.
5 :
I agree. But did poor people actually earn the right to clean drinking water? Or did they earn the right to clean air? Did they earn the right to have their food inspected by the FDA? I don't think so. FACT. It's time to get rid of these socialist programs. NOW.
6 :
There is a "food public option." Grocery stores don't prevent you from buying food due to pre-existing conditions

Does anyone know an organic/health food coupon site

Does anyone know an organic/health food coupon site?
The coupon sites im finding just redirect you to other sites or they only have coupons for non health foods. It would be nice to find a site that you can see the selection and print directly from ONE site, does anyone have any suggestions? I put this question in this category since im vegetarian and I hope fellow health food people (vegetarian or not) will have some suggestions

why or why not?

all those Italian cold cuts are not exactly a health food! LOL Just because you put something bad on something healthy, does not change the fact that italian hoagies have lots of calories. Still better than lots of french fries, though.
2 :
not really pastrami, salami, ham, and other lunch meats like that arent the best for you. try lean chicken breast or turkey breast on the whole wheat bread with some lettuce and tomato. dont use mayo. use a olive and red wine vinager and a little oregano. use prevelone (sp) cheese instead of american

Should TV ads for junk food be matched with some time for a health rebuttal

Should TV ads for junk food be matched with some time for a health rebuttal?
For every 10 commercials for junk food, would you favor adding one commercial describing the health benefits of leafy green vegetables, legumes, whole grains, and whole fruits? Right now, all we get to see are artery clogging recipes on PBS. They say that taste is paramount. The airways were supposed to be shared for the public good, but very little of the time is doing good for people. It serves to increase corporate profits and executive bonuses. Who would pay for it? Impose a tax on junk food advertisement of 10%. That money would fund healthy eating advertising from a local club. "Not only who would pay for it but why?" Industry is spending hundreds of millions of dollars on disinformation campaigns. This is experienced subliminally by most Americans hundreds of times each year. "Can folks no longer think for themselves?" The food industry is working hard to control the consensus reality for our elementary school students and faculty. A huge number of students with allergies to dairy are encouraged to drink milk and do not connect their symptoms with their diet. The advertisers spend hundreds of thousands of dollars each year on scams like the 'food pyramid.' The marketing dollars are blatantly deceptive. Milk is not required for a healthy diet and in most cases are damaging to the typical American.

America is the land of the free. You made a choice for yourself to be healthy. Its up to everyone to make a choice. do I want comfort or health? Do I want to feel good now and pay later, or do I eat carrots and stay out of the hospital? The answer is NO! People want to make money. If your caught slipping then 2009 will be like 2010!
3 :
Not only who would pay for it but why? Can folks no longer think for themselves? I get your point, and its valid, but people make poor choices with their diet because of laziness, convenience, etc. Putting a commercial about eating fruits right behind the McDonalds one isnt going to help much. What would be great is instead of using models in the commercials use a picture of Morgan Spreelock (sp?) instead. When you see what 25 days of fast food can do to you it might change your eating habits a little. Or maybe not.
4 :
If you ask me, As bad as it is, I wouldn't be surprised if everyone who is someone is getting lots of money from the drug industry including the media, and they control what we see in favor of this dictatorship known as the "BIG PHARMA" Big money talks and we get the shaft every time. Please don't get me started! We need someone to represent us hard working law abiding citizens. Because our pocket books are drying up and they won't stop until it is!

Now that we will have Universal health care and food stamps, we don't need unemployment insurance

Now that we will have Universal health care and food stamps, we don't need unemployment insurance?
Now that would make sense. If the politicians are going to make health care a right. Why do we need a job? Much less job insurance?

Perhaps some people need a job to earn money to buy food and clothing and pay rent or a mortgage. Maybe we need unemployment insurance so people can stay alive while they are looking for another job if they lose theirs?
2 :
Cool... we can all meet down at the welfare office and get our checks... and demonstrate to have our welfare checks direct deposited into our banking accounts so we can meet at Starbucks!
3 :
How about we give that insurance to Israel as well. We pay for their universal health care so why not?
4 :
A job should provide for more than just health care.
5 :
What every democrat needs is a private sector job. Lets send the congress packing, so they can get one.
6 :
When everyone climbs into the wagon that nobody wants to push anymore the game will be over. Socialism works until the rich run out of money.
7 :
this new bill is not universal nor free or anything else. it's just a big ol' government boon-doggle. problem is, once it's entrenched as is welfare and other stuff, we will never be able to get rid of it. it's all nothing but a make work program for washington dc beurocrats and that's about it.
8 :
screw that... I worked hard and paid for this HOUSE I'm living in... Isn't having a ROOF over my head a right too? And Food and clothing? Good GOD MAN... why the heck not?
9 :
We won't need unemployment either, as long as we keep drinking the cool aid.
10 :
you need a job to pay for my food stamps! I suggest you also seek a second job as you will soon have another mouth to feed in 9 months. Aren't you a lucky guy
11 :
What is wrong with people that they are upset that Americans and non Americans will be getting AFFORDABLE FREE health care? If you do away with AFFORDABLE unemployment insurance, then many "undocumented' employees will lose there jobs, so you might have to run that by Nancy. The thing is the employers will employ the UD employee and say the legal worker is making $10 an hour, the employer makes a deal with the illegal person and tells them that since they are not having to pay income tax, he/she will pay them $8 an hour. When I worked in San antonio, Dallas and Springfield this is what is going on. now the incentive for the employer is that they save some there, but save a ton by not having to pay or equal the FICA, social security, unemployment, health insurance, the 4% Medicare and stuff like that , so in the long run they save an additional 30-35% by employing an undocumented person. If you drop the unemployment insurance, then they might wiggle out of the health insurance, which is easy and then go ahead and employ legal people. Guess it doesn't matter as there are so many that are in the business of supplying fake documents. Most can just head to the county clerks office and find a ton of dormant social security numbers and facde it if so many are not paying or behind on taxes the IRS probably won't catch them. But i figure if ICE targeted the employer, then the country could collect $100 billion just n that side. I believe they say they send over a trillion out of the country and if everyone paid what they were suppose to pay then we might be looking at $200 billion collected. now so Speaker Pelosi goes along, then tell her that we will only collect from the employer. granted the first thing the employer will say is that they have to lay off some people, so tell speaker Pelosi to pass a bill that states only legal Americans can be layed off, not illegals. they can also get the unemployment checks...................................... But if we put it that way then she should be happy and we collect some cash for the country and the administration to lose. Problem with food stamps is they only give you 50% of the face value when you get beer and smokes and tops or zigzag rolling papers. Happy Holidays

What is a good book just about the health effects of food on your body

What is a good book just about the health effects of food on your body?
I really am interested in nutrition, but I don't want to be preached to about the environment, socioeconomic inequalities, the green movement, vegetarianism, capitalism, consumerism, etc. etc. Can you help me?

I hear what you say. There is no one book that will offer you what you are looking for. I would suggest that you get to know a couple of nutritionists. This subject almost changes on a daily basis. People and governments are for ever trying to tell us that we have to cut this or cut that from our diets. Scientists are forever changing the chemical balances of grains and other seeds yet we see so many problems with diabetics, breast cancer and animals slaughtered because science has fed them meats that contain BSE when they can only digest grains. I would suggest we all go back to the backyard gardening for a healthier food chain.
