go on www.foodnetwork.com search on google for healthy recipes and maybe go to a local public library and get some healthy recipe books

What do you mean by "health food"? Are you looking for something different from fresh vegetables, fruit, meat, poultry seafood, nuts, and whole grains? What sort of recipes are you having trouble finding? My mother raised me on "health food". We ate all kinds of disgusting things that supposedly had magical healthful properties. I never eat anything but real food now.

I'm 2 months pregnant and over weight. what kind of health food should I eat

I'm 2 months pregnant and over weight. what kind of health food should I eat?
I heard that rew veggies have a lot of fiber and that you digest fat easier. Could this help me not gain too much weight? What else should I eat? And is it possible to burn fat while pregnant?

Just eat a healthy balanced diet. You don't want to lose an excessive amount of weight while pregnant. I would wait on dieting until after the baby is born. Plenty of fruits and veggies, and basic foods that are better for you would be great. Get a balanced nutritious diet for both yours and the babies sake. Good luck!!
2 :
keep your diet at 45-50 g of carbs per serving. watch your sugar intake like snaking on candy, chips, ice cream. keep on your protein.if you cant eat meat there is other ways to get your protien. You also need to make sure you eat breakfast lunch and dinner. dont skip meals, that is the worst thing you can do. if you follow this you keep your chances down for getting diabetes. Good luck and take care! remember I said your carb and sugar intake is the only ones you need to worry about! and remember you can not eat like the little girls on here! even though they might think other wise! Also remember alot of your responses on here is going to be from moms that have 1-2-3 kids and just feel that they know it all. but in all reality we are all different! Message me if you have any questions!!
3 :
Now is not the time to worry about your weight. Your pregnant and need an extra 300-500 calories a day for your baby. Eat healthy foods, but don't try to diet or to lose weight. You also shouldn't start exercising now if you haven't been before unless you get your doctors ok and let them know exactly what you plan on doing.
4 :
You should not aim to lose any weight while pregnant, although keeping your gain modest is fine. Fruits and vegetables should be a mainstay of any healthy diet. Fats are also essential while you are pregnant, so do not attempt an extremely low fat diet. Besides fruits and vegetables, try to incorporate whole grain foods (wheat bread, brown rice, etc.) There are LOTS of resources online about healthy pregnancy diets that are more detailed. Also, take your prenatal vitamin every day! Congratulations.
5 :
well if youre overweight just drink lots of water even if you weretn you still should esp when pregnant and eat a lot of fruit and vegetables try to avoid sweets and sodas and sugary juices have them sparingly same with fried foods and fast foods if you must get fast food try to order a small meal instead and drink 2 percent milk instead of whole milk and my sister in law who's 7 months pregnant and has had diabetes since she was a kid is obese and was advised to not gain more than 15 lbs so she has been eating really healthy since she first found out she was pregnant at 6 wks and also walks a mile a day and guess what shes only gained 10 lbs and her baby's due april 30th so exercising regularly will also help walking is great and safe exercise when youre pregnant but dont lift weights or run or other things if you didnt do that before you were pregnant
6 :
Any raw fruits and vegetables are great for you. Not just when your pregnant but after you have the baby continue eating them, as you will need energy. Also, 100% fruit juice in limited quantities and LOTS of water. As for burning fat while your pregnant...I only gained 5 pounds with my second child. But I was also never hungry so my body had no choice but to use some of my fat stores as fuel. Either way, it was unhealthy. Just try to eat smaller frequent meals through out your day and eat the fruits, vegetables, lean meats, salads, lots of water and a little fruit juice or V8 juice if you like it. Eating this way will help you to maintain a healthy weight gain and also help you loose the weight faster after the baby arrives. Try to stay active too. Walking has so many benefits for pregnant moms. It keeps your vascular system in shape, helps promote the healthy weight gain and even helps make labor and delivery easier. Good luck and congrats!
7 :
Just eat healthy. Don't worry so much about your weight problem right now..just think of things that are good to put into your body for the baby. You can always loose weight later. You only have 9 months to give your baby what it needs while it is inside you

Scientific literature that examines the health benefits of organic food

Scientific literature that examines the health benefits of organic food?
Can someone please find me scientific literature that specifically examines the health benefits of organic food? I can't find any specific studies or articles that have graphs, data tables, etc. I can find some articles that talk about organic food in general, but not the lack of pesticides, increased nutriional value, etc.

Part of the problem that you'll have trouble finding such literature is that it's already known that in most realistic cases there is no significant difference in many areas when it comes to safety of food content. Organic often is the same as conventional food in nutritional content, not higher. In other cases it's actually lower due to higher stress from insects and weeds. Those aspects are variable depending on what crops and practices you are looking at, so citing a few sources like the person below does not equate organic always being more nutritional if you're interpreting the findings incorrectly by trying to extrapolate more than the data was intended for. You need to actually go in and look at specifically what they were studying and what methods were used, otherwise you're just cherry picking. If you start comparing specific practices then you can start making definite comparisons, but simply saying organic vs. conventional is much too broad. Another thing to keep in mind is that the nutrients from organic foods are also identical to conventional. Vitamin C is Vitamin C regardless of where you get it from It is very rare that there is ever a difference between synthetic and naturally produced nutrients. The rare exceptions include folate for the synthetic version is actually easily for us to digest, while the natural version of Vitamin E is easier to absorb. Otherwise most are just plain identical. Pesticides are still used in organic operations, just ones that are already produced by other organisms, yet they aren't necessarily safer for us. Not to mention that pesticide use can have literally no bearing on safety at all with some crops, while others do have more problems with residue such as lettuce and spinach. There's a lot of misconceptions people believe when it comes to organic, so first you need to be careful about what you're looking for and the assumptions you are making already. That often leads to a skewed view of how you look at the data. That's basically why I felt the need for presenting those warnings earlier. The main thing is to look at a case by case basis, not just lumping everything organic as a whole. Most of what I know is from nutrition classes and doing research and work in organic fields (unfortunately the research wasn't directly looking at what you're interested in). Generally scientific literature will be scattered and difficult to find in one place, but I would suggest looking in nutritional journals pertaining to questions on food content, or broaden your search to look at things like worker safety. I'm not familiar with journals pertaining to research specifically on organic farming and nutrition, but browse some databases, you might be able to find one. Good luck.

There is a large body of scientific studies that show that organic food has higher nutritional levels (the first answerer is totally wrong). Comparative studies have been undertaken on a wide range of organic and non-organic food types (mainly fruit, vegetables and milk) and higher nutritional levels have been found in the organic food in most cases (more minerals, vitamins and antioxidants). Here are four reviews of the literature, all of which found higher levels: 1. Worthington V. Nutritional quality of organic versus conventional fruits, vegetables, and grains, Journal of Complimentary Medicine 2001; 7 No. 2: 161–173. This found that found that organic crops had significantly higher levels of all 21 nutrients analysed compared to non-organic produce, including statistically significant higher levels of iron (21% more), magnesium (29% more) and phosphorus (14% more). See link. 2. Review of the scientific literature compiled for the national French food agency AFSSA, by the University of Aix-Marseille. This concluded that organic crops contain more dry matter (are more nutrient dense), more minerals (such as iron and magnesium),and more antioxidants. Published in 2009 in the journal Agronomy for Sustainable Development - see link. 3. Soil Association (2001) "Organic Farming, food quality and human health: a review of the evidence". This found that organic foods have higher nutritional levels on average than non-organic foods (with about half finding higher levels and about half finding little difference). See link. 4. Food Standards Agency, 2009. In this UK review, in almost all of the comparative studies the organic foods had higher beneficial nutrients, including in the majority of the studies where the difference was statistically significant. (Note: the FSA was established by the UK Government to reassure the public over the quality of normal non-organic food and it has consistently declined to acknowledge the benefits of organic food in public. In this review, the FSA - scandulously - put this essential finding in Appendix 12 and dismissed it as ‘not important’ in the main text of their report! So, it was not reported to the public. Nevertheless, the result was consistent with the other reviews in generally finding higher nutrient levels in organic food). Hope this helps. Edit: in response to another answerer, the nutritional differences are NOT explained by differences in variety and environmental differences. These are basic issues that the recent scientific reviewers address. For instance, if you check the Soil Association review, you will see that one of the criteria was that the variety and environment (location, soil type etc.) were controlled; studies that did not respect this were excluded. ie. when these factors are controlled, the scientific evidence shows that organic food has higher nutritional levels. This should be no surprise: higher soil organic matter levels, means higher soil microbial activity, means better soil mineral supplies. Inorganic fertiliser-based systems only supply NPK fertiliser to the soil and do not maintain levels of the other soil nutrients.
3 :
organic is a process there is no difference in nutrition value between organically grown food and nonorganic. If I take a seed, lets say a black diamond variety open pollinated watermelon and apply organic methods to one plant and nonorganic methods to another then you will see no nutritional value difference. The reason why nutrition claims are made to be higher with organic produce compared to nonorganic is because they are comparing two different varieties and two different environments of the plant raising. Lets say hydroponic vs black dirt or picked green and shipped vs picked ripe and locally grown/delivered. http://www.ers.usda.gov/Briefing/Organic/

Try calling your local city or county health dept. They would probably be the one to inspect the facility, so they should hopefully know what to look for.

Green tea and acai berry. Both are excellent metabolism boosters.
2 :
Green tea
3 :
Chilli, ginseng, ginger. They all increase metabolism.
4 :
I wouldn't take any drugs or herbs that destroy your heart.Green or black tea with a teaspoon of coconut oil and Stevia or honey(well Stevia doesn't help it's just better than sugar or fake sugar)can curb your appetite and give you energy.Coconut oil has been proven to help with weight loss you can use it in cooking too.Chili ginseng and ginger are good too.But obviously the key is to eat less than you burn off in excersize.See a dietitian, you can get a trial at Ballys or some other gym and you should get to see a dietitian, tell him what your doing and take notes. Then run away before they try to get you in a contract.
5 :
There are tons of things out there, but bottom line is none are really that effective, and some are downright dangerous. Green tea is said to boost metabolism, but it doesn't do so enough that you can eat what you want and not exercise. If you do eat right and exercise, you don't need to waste money on gimmicks that do little for you but make the companies that produce them richer. If you want to lose weight the key is to eat right and exercise regularly. You don't need to waste money on products with questionable results and side effects, and that make you sick if you eat too much of the wrong thing (like alli does). I've done tons of research on various products myself, and although you can find sites with people that claim they've had miracle results, there's just no basis for them and scrutiny of the products shows there aren't enough ingredients in most of them, to cause weight loss (even if they contain ingredients known to promote weight loss). Buy nothing until you do your own research on whatever you are considering...and do the research on independent websites, not ones that are also trying to sell you the product. I've decided the best way is just to watch what I put in my mouth. I can't justify throwing money at companies for unverified products. I spend my money on workout programs and equipment that I KNOW can work if I apply myself. ☺

Do you frequent the local health food store, or pick up odds & ends at 7-11

Do you frequent the local health food store, or pick up odds & ends at 7-11?

Neither. I go to a grocery store.
2 :
7-11 is a convenience store--the concept of a quick stop for a snack is a toss up between the junk foods or the healthier stuff from a health food store.... it is just as easy to eat bad as it is to eat good. I never found anything but sugared up stuff and sandwiches pre-made by God knows who at 7-11.
3 :
I live in Alabama and as far as I can tell there isn't a health food store here...but, then again I haven't seen a 7-11 either
4 :
Wow....talk about opposite ends of the spectrum! Health food stores vs. 7-11?!?!?!? I hit up the regular grocery stores....
5 :
Yes, health food store; no to 7-11.
6 :
I have a suburban supermarket about 5 minutes away walking that I visit daily. The highlight of my week is to go into town for my major grocery run. That's on a Wednesday.........mm today's Wednesday whoop de do, I do have a life past Answers after all.
