Now that we can get products at the Health Food store that taste like meat,is there any excuse for eating junk

Now that we can get products at the Health Food store that taste like meat,is there any excuse for eating junk
meat products that prepare you to have a heart attack in later life? These vegetable products even feel like meat in the mouth. Of course, small health food stores may have to order them special for you.

If you're allergic to soy or celiac, yeah. Many of the analogues contain one or both ingredients. But other than that, well, maybe because people are hooked on animal products and don't want to give them up. And because it's hard to make a veggie steak good enough to fool people. Faux chicken is a little easier.

The last time I heard something like that was when Diet Soda's came out for every brand of regular soda , everyone said it tastes like the regular , how wrong they were , I have heard that splenda tasted just like sugar even when used to sweeten iced tea ..they were wrong again...I have eaten steak at least once per week every week ,sometimes more for God knows how long , I have my cholesterol checked on a regular basis , it is below normal , I ask several doctors about my crackrock ( Steak ) they say eat on , as long as it is the better cuts of meat , you will be fine ...I am trying to quit smoking as well , I have smoked for 25 years ( age 13 to age 38 ) I have to argue with doctors when I do the forced air capacity tests on my lungs , they say " you don't smoke do you " they freak out when I tell them how long I have smoked . Last year the doc doing my physical demand I take x-rays , they showed nothing , so he thought I was lying about smoking for so long ...I maintain an active lifestyle , and rarely eat veggies ..I eat just the same as my grandparents did , and cook the way they did on cast iron , and use the same ingredients they did , and yes they are dead now , but they never ate from a "Health food Store " ...they lived to their mid 90's and never even saw a doctor ...they always said if you want to live stay away from doctors ...the only reason I do is because I have to take annual physicals at the FD ....good Luck with the fake meat like veggie ..count me out...

If being a vegetarian is so cool, why do you have to have your tofu prepared in a manner so that it tastes like meat? That just doesn't make sense to me. Your body is obviously craving meat, otherwise, you wouldn't be looking for meaty tasting products.

Would you try an upscale restaraunt that only served health food

Would you try an upscale restaraunt that only served health food?
health food has the stigma of being boring. Let's say the food here is delicious but all the choices are low in calories, cholesterol, fat, sugar, or carbs. The deserts are fruit smoothies and organic baked goods. Yea or Nay?

It would depend on the pricing. I'm cheap like that.
2 :
Yes. I'd eat a large main course then ask the waiter to pass on my compliments for the excellent starter
3 :
don't eat in restaurants
4 :
What's the catch?
5 :
Yea
6 :
Yes. I would look forward in trying it because every other restaurant is so unhealthy. Most restaurants give you plates that should be eaten by like 3 or 4 ppl and the calories and fat in it is ridiculous. so it would be nice to have a restaurant that is health conscientious
7 :
If it's well priced, and the food tastes good like you said then I'm with it.
8 :
Been there...done that. I'd do it again..I need to do it more....AMERICANS in general need to more often. Peace, Love & Happines

Eat a healthy diet such as: Breakfast: 2 scrambled egg whites and fruit Lunch: Salad with not a lot of dressing or a sandwich with vegetables on it like lettuce, tomato on whole wheat bread Dinner: Grilled chicken sandwich with some steamed vegs. Snacks: Fruit or something healthy Water is always good!! Foods to avoid: Fast food Chips Candy Processed food (hot pockets...) Ps. These foods are ok once and a while but not every day. Also cooking your own foods at home will help!!
2 :
Cut out sugar, white flour, fried and fast food, and soda pop. Eat lots of fruits and veggies, fish, skinless white meat chicken, and lean meat. Drink lots of water and MOVE. Walking and swimming are the best overall exercise, but the treadmill, exercise bike, real bike, jogging, are all good. Start gradually, and work up to at least 25 minutes or more. If you like dancing, dance your heart out to your favorite music in your house. Work up a sweat! Take a brisk walk the best day. Back to eating. Eat slowly. Try putting your fork or sandwich between bites. You'll be amazed. You'll eat half as much. Stop when you feel content, not full. It takes 20 minutes to feel the fullness. Eat whole wheat bread with lite margarine like Smart Balance. Put that on a baked potato too. There's an excellent start for you. Good luck! :)

Are raw cashews dangerous, like the ones you buy in the health food store

Are raw cashews dangerous, like the ones you buy in the health food store?
I have been eating them for months w/ no problems but someone just told me that they should not be eaten raw. He specified that they should not be eaten while harvesting. So I am wondering if out of the garden raw is the same as raw in the health food store?
Other - Food & Drink - 3 Answers

1 :
Every so often, a well-meaning Co-op customer will alert us to the information that raw cashews are toxic. While it is true that in their natural state, the cashew nut or kernel is encased in a shell that contains caustic oils, these oils are extracted from the shell and used industrially. Even “raw” cashews are processed to remove this oil, and so are safe to eat. People who are allergic to cashews cannot eat them at all, cooked or not. Cooking does not affect allergens and does not render food safe for someone with a true allergy.
2 :
Raw cashews are not bad for you. But I find that toasting them helps to enhance the flavors. :)
3 :
Raw nuts are fine, just eat a handful.... everything in moderation. Cashews have been known to be high cholesterol, so many people tend to label them as bad, but its not BAD cholesterol, its GOOD cholesterol, but again, moderation is key.

What are some healthy foods or health food products good for oral health

What are some healthy foods or health food products good for oral health?
Not necessarily looking for a natural remedy for a toothache or anything specific, just wondering if there's any supplements or even foods that promote good oral health, healthy teeth, etc?

Good oral health requires adequate calcium in your diet, and many people don't get enough. So try to include low-fat milk, yogurt, etc. Also, calcium is absorbed much more readily if you are also getting plenty of vitamin D, so you want to make sure that you are getting that as well. But mostly, oral health depends on keeping stuff *away* from your teeth. Acidic drinks (orange juice, sodas, etc.) and food particles are the enemy of good oral health. Hardly anyone brushes for long enough (at least two full minutes, and at least twice a day), and not enough people floss every day. If you do both of those things, that's more important than any supplement you could take.
2 :
tomato, apple,orange etc

I want to detoxify my body. What do I ask for at the health food store

I want to detoxify my body. What do I ask for at the health food store?
My coworker told me I can go to a health food store and get a series of pills to take for several days to purify my body. I haven't been taking drugs or anything, but I just want to do a body cleanse to make myself feel a little better/healthier. Of course I will be drinking a lot of water too.

Just got through the detox and worked great when you go to the health food store they can lead you to the right stuff for you
2 :
You'll be wasting your money. The whole alt med detox thing is a scam. From Wiki: Certain approaches in alternative medicine claim to remove toxins from the body through herbal, electrical or electromagnetic treatments (such as the Aqua Detox treatment). These toxins are undefined and have no scientific basis,[1] making the validity of such techniques questionable. There is no evidence for toxic accumulation in these cases,[1] as the liver and kidneys automatically detoxify and excrete many toxic materials including metabolic wastes. Under this theory if toxins are too rapidly released without being safely eliminated (such as burning fat that stores toxins) they can damage the body and cause malaise. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detoxification Some quotes: "It's an irrational concept, yet an intriguing idea, that modern life so fills us with poisons from polluted air and food additives that we need to be periodically "cleaned out" ("detoxified"). Never mind that natural chemicals in our foods are thousands of times more potent than additives, or that most Americans are healthier, live longer, and can choose from the most healthful food supply ever available." -- Frances M. Berg, M.S. "Real detoxification of foreign substances takes place in the liver, which modifies their chemical structure so they can be excreted by the kidneys which filter them from the blood into the urine." --Stephen Barrett, M.D. "Toxin" is classic pseudoscience terminology. --Ben Goldacre, M.D. "...these detox programs amount to a large quantity of excrement, both literally and figuratively.” --Peter Pressman, M.D. http://www.skepdic.com/detox.html Edit: Gale - what "toxins" exactly are you talking about (chemically), and how are they removed by your methods - what is the physiological mechanics?
3 :
Are you in the habit of eating canned good products such as the ones below? * Canned Meat Products * Canned Vegetables * Canned fruits * Canned Fish If yes, chances are, you also ingest body toxins along with the food that you eat each day. These toxins in the body find their way inside your system in the form of preservatives. There are many body cleansing products available in the market today, but before you go to some health food store, it would be in your best interest if you read some additional information about doing a body detox. Just copy/paste the URL below to your browser:

The natural way as God intended mate .......... Let Food Be Thy Medicine Soccrates said. The more wholegrains and cereals like organic brown rice and fresh low sugar fruits like strawberries, pears and watermelon and fresh leafy and green vegies and crunchy vegies like carrotts and celery you eat the larger and easier your motions will be ........... drink more fresh filtered water too to ensure you are properly hydrated and to ease the elimination process...... cut out or right back on caffeine and sodas, pop and soft drinks too as they will dehydrate you terribly and wash out your water soluble B complex of vitamins which are so essential for healthy neural, immune and digestive functioning........ wholegrains and cereals and leafy and green vegies and lean organic meats are rich in the B complex of vitamins. chew each mouthfull at least 20 times ...... to aid in digestion too ....... don't combine proteins and carbs in one sitting ...... leave a 2 - 3 hour gap between each to ease the digestive process ....... eat fruit by itself ie ~ leave an hour after fruit before eating anything else. Pinpoint any food intolerances you may have such as lactose intolerance .......... lactose intolerance can cause bloating, gassiness, belching, constipation, acid reflux, achy bones, moodiness and irritability, brain frizzing ........ unaddressed food intolerances contribute enormously to bad digestion and compromise your whole system ...... eat more leafy and green vegies and low sugar fruits ......... green vegies lightly stemed or raw like broccolli, celery, buk choy, kale, chard are all rich in calcium and magnesium (green vegies for magnesium and calcium fruits for calcium) and perhaps ditch the milk and dairy for 5 days and see if that speeds the process for you. oh, eat more crunchy vegies too like raw celery, raw or lightly steamed broccolli, raw carrotts ....... they act like a broom and sweep the colon clean ...... green vegies are particularly good for helping with constipation ..... and eat the brown rice ....... one bowl full a day of brown rice, plenty of water and crunchy vegies will nail it for you mate. anything you can buy in a supplement, powder, tablet, pill ...... will never do the same job as actually paying attention to the way your body feels when you eat ....... and taking note of how the food you are eating makes you feel .......... if you get symptoms of headaches and migraines, irritability and moodiness, fatigue and exhaustion, nasty mood swings, achy bones, bloating and constipation after eating a particular food ........ eliminate it ........ strip your diet back to green vegie juice and organic brown rice or organic quinoa and slowly add in one food per day and note how your body reacts........ if it disagrees with you don't eat it. tedious and irritating to do sure but well worth the effort. ***EDIT*** for those of us who have no perception of what is contained in tinned foods ........ two good examples would be processed sugar enmasse and MSG ....... both toxicsludge that will only ever serve to put extra strain on your liver and make your body and all your internal organs work just that much harder ....... to desperately try and eliminate them. peace baby ♥
5 :
Eat a lot of raw fruits and veggies Go vegetarian for 1 week no tobacco or alcohol etc avoid sugar as well this is the only detox regime i know
6 :
You already have all you need to "detox", provided you have a liver. That's what it is for. Millions of years of evolution have provided you with the most effective toxin removal system for the human body that has ever existed. Taking herbal pills and potions will have absolutely no effect, save for helping the owner of the health food shop to pay off his mortgage. Seriously, just eat healthily (ie not too much fat, and eat fruit and veg), don't drink too much and don't smoke and you'll be fine.
7 :
Nothing. Your liver and kidneys detox your body 24/7, you do not need to take any pill
